If we quit allowing any immigrants to come to America for 10 years, a demand for our unemployed workers would rise, as would the wages they could earn. Though inflation may occur in whichever production these folks were hired, we would not have to pay them welfare, nor for the bureaucracy of the welfare programs. The end result would be that our taxes would fall. Also, we must realize that people do not have a Constitutional right to live at the expense of the government(s) where there is no job or where there is no realistic prospect of a job.

Who agrees?

Send us your cold, huddled masses. That must be some quote from Rockefeller, or Carnegie wanting more cheap labor!

The common misconception I see in most immigration debate is that there are a finite number of jobs in the country, and the people immigrating either take all the work or have no jobs and are a drain on our resources (the so-called welfare state). A large and growing portion of our economy is based on service industries, which scale as the population grows. The more people who come in, the more jobs there are for them.

We are not in any kind of an unemployment crisis right now. The vast majority of immigrants are gainfully employed and not on welfare. Statistically, a first-generation immigrant to the United States is about 1/5th as likely to commit a crime as a third-generation or later resident. The vast majority of these people, whether legal or illegal immigrants, are well-motivated, hard-working and honest people who are trying to escape crushing poverty and violence in their country of origin.

Apart from the obvious problem of "how do you stop people from immigrating?", there's the question of "why do you need to?" This country is founded on immigration, and the cultural strength of our nation is derived in no small part from the rich and varied cultural elements on which it is comprised.

Sorry, I don't.

Political refugees and others who are fleeing torture or death in their homelands would be banned under your rule. I can't live with that, letting someone die instead of seeking refuge. You seem to have missed this point.

Do you have any evidence or studies that shows this plan would work?

You seem to assume that the majority of people on Welfare are undocumented immigrants. Have you looked at the statistics lately? Most undocumented people do not go on Welfare for fear of being found out.

You seem to be making some wild assumptions without any facts to back them up. So no, I don't agree with your plan.

If you really want true and honest answers, you might want to just ask a question and not limit to those who agree with you.

Gotta Get this off my chest. Illegals who come here are on automatic welfare; theydon't need to apply. They work for less and this costs Americans their jobs on one hand and degredation of their homeland on the other. It's not just the taxes we lose. We lose our country and culture. Wether they apply for "Welfare" or not is not the issue.
We gotta let the Refugee status folks in. That, at least on the face of it is the American way. If we do that, we can manage to help them, such as they may need and help our own citizens too. We can't absorb million, upon milliions of illegals (mostly from Mexico) as to do so, will break our American system, government and economy. Why do you think they are leaving Mexico. It sucks there. If they can't come here properly, they can't come here. Period. Get in line and take a number. It's the American way. Wait your turn. Obey the law and the USA will be here for another day into the future.
Once the illegals have been removed, we can start allowing legal immigrants to come in. We do have the opportunity for them and we can fairly and comfortably encompas them.
If we let illegals in from broken countries for purely economic reasons (mostly theirs and a little ours) we will wither and die and the goose that laid the golden egg ...will be dead.
Keep the goose alive and there will be golden eggs for all immigrants, into the future!
Illegals GO HOME!

I don't agree at all. I am married to a woman from another country. We are going through the process legally to bring her here. She will never be a drain on anyone other than me. To stop all immigration is ridiculous. There are many jobs available for those that want to work. I am in a trade that has high unemployment and I have been unemployed many times due to plant closings, but I always find work because I want to work.

Blacks live off welfare all thier lives. It has nothing to do with immigration, they simply won't work. SOme blacks have 15 kids a family, no time to work, too busy reproducing.

I agree. I just don't know how to solve what has happen to my city/town. When I go into town shopping, sometimes I feel like I'm in freaking Mexico. 10 years ago we had hardly any illegals.

There should be a 10 year ban on "economic refugees" from all western countries. That's different from those fleeing hardship from war.

Don't think stopping legal immigration would solve any problems .. all research shows that this country still needs immigrants, but LEGAL ditto ....
