it is a genetic thing. Not bad or relitve to any species. It is an old wives tale that dogs with more black in their mouth make better hunters. The darker the dog the more black usually too. My Mountain Curs have a long bred ancestery and have alot of black in their mouth. I have noticed though that dogs with alot of black have more ripples on the roof of their mouth. The more ripples on the roof of the mouth the better the scenting ability because the roof of the mouth is an indicater of the inside of the nasal passages which have the same ripples. More ripples = more surface area for smelling sense cells. A blood hound has the most ripples of any dog.

usually that's a sign of a different breed. chow's usually have purple or black spots on thier tongue. more than likely your dog is mixed with another breed.

just a random thing. even dogs that have no blue-tongued breeds in their genetic family can have "blue" or black spots on their tongue.
My german shepherd has one.
they're.. um... "character marks" :)

My calico has black patches on her gums. It is just genetics. Nothing to be worried about. Nice dog choice.
