How can I have my hair coloured, if I have very long hair? My natural colour is brown, its not very dark, but I would like to go blonde. I had highlights put in before with a cap, but it wasnt too successful as my hair is too long and I beleive the only way it can be done is to use foils? Any other ideas? Also, I will be going swimming in the sea soon, and heard that if I dye my hair I cannot swim in the sea or in a chlorinated swimming pool for at least 2 weeks after a colour, other wise it will go GREEN!?!?! Is this true?!

Its true it will turn green if you dye it blonde and go swimming in chlorine pools. The sea salt water will also damage your hair after you've coloured it because it will dry your hair and make it all tangled, it will be really hard to comb. the best way to dye long hair is to go to a salon. Don't do it at home, it messy and wont come out looking good.

The swimming thing depends on what technique is used to color your hair. But as a general rule swimming is out for at least 2 weeks. Foils are the only way to go with long hair, but remember that it will take a very long time to do and be rather expensive even at a beauy school.

I suggest that you go to a hair salon and have it done. It is not easy to lighten the hair on your own. You may end up having different colors in each section of your hair. Also, stay away from blonde colors that have "ash" shade in them. These definitely get green when exposed to sea water.

yes it will turn green as for the dying part I too have long hair past my waist line. highlights are tough but you could dye the whole thing then you'll just have to keep up with the root. i would definitely pay a professional to do it for you the first time. I dyed mine black now i just touch up my roots every 3-5 weeks.

Honey, don't do it yourself! Go to a professional because as you have already seen, you get what you pay for! Let someone who gets paid to know how to care for your long locks do it, so that way if you have funky results, the ability to fix them is there!

You could also buy two packs of color rather than one, if you are going to color your hair yourself.
