I have had alot of cats....in my experience, the only way to ensure that a male won't spray is to have him neutered before he starts.....neutering him after he has matured won't always correct the problem. All I can suggest is to keep spraying him with water when you see him doing it.....making sure he doesn't see that it's YOU that is spraying him. (He'll just wait till you're not looking)

i have 8 cats all male and all neutered, but only one sprays, like yours he is also bolshy ( i bet hes black) he only started to spray after he either got kicked or was hit by a car, the vet seems to think its trauma and he feels scared and insecure. i got a product from the vets called feliway which is ment to make him feel secure, you spray it on door entrances, trouble is i keep forgetting to do it regularly, it seems to work when i use it. they also make a plug in one which is probably better as its there all the time. dont hit him or shout at him as it will make problem worse, dont use bleach to clean the spray off, use vinegar instead as cats like the smell of bleach. he could also be spraying because there is another cat (a full tom) in you area and hes trying to be the top cat

First of all, speak to a reputable vet. This is one of the hardest things to stop a cat from doing. The secret is to really soak the areas where he is spraying with a mixture of 1 part soapy water with an equal amount of White Vinegar and scrub the area really well. This also removes urine stains from furniture and carpets. You may have to scrub more than once, but this has worked for me many times.

Assuming that your cat is neutered and is in simple terms disillusioned almost about the bypass, indexed lower than are some concerns that you'll attempt: Feliway, anti-anxiety medicine, or flower essences. As absurd and impressive because that is going to sound, flower essences are operating for my cat's spraying. i have a 12 year historic neutered male (I nursed him back to wellbeing even as he become an emaciated kitten delivered to a protect the position I worked). I have his 2 sisters. 2 years in the past, a coworker needed help to entice a semi-feral kitten that become residing in her backyard. lengthy tale speedy, i finished up holding the kitten (female) and bringing living a 7 month historic neutered male to be her playmate so as that she would now not worry the older cats. My older male (after first setting up deathly unwell from pressure) began spraying everywhere the position of abode. i tried Feliway first. It worked for a even as. Then I requested the vet for anti-anxiety meds. Pilling him made him even extra demanding, and once the pill hit his tongue he would foam on the mouth. i become determined and tried Azmira flower essence mixture for spraying. I placed a drop on my finger and rub it on his ears two times an afternoon. the instructions on the label allow you to already know with a view to characteristic drops to the cat's water, even if that become once now not likely to artwork in my situation. I had before examine that flower essences is also absorbed by using way of a cat's ears, so i tried it, and that i nonetheless at the on the spot are unable to sense it. i'm questioning if that is purely twist of destiny, even if now not maximum helpful has he stopped spraying from the day i began the "magic ear medicine", yet he's finally purring back and being loving in the direction of me like he become beforehand than the recent arrivals.

if the cat is marking his territory and he is not paying rent, well there is only one solution to this problem. Buy 2 liters of mountain dew and spend the day recclaiming your territory by peeing all over your apartment. Soon the cat will learn who owns what. If he still continues, pee on him, then he will know you own him. Seriously, just keep the litter box clean and if this doesnt help take him to the vet to check for urinary tract infections.

get it neutered for one, that helps a lot. There are sprays you can use too. Been a while since I've had a cat, but that's what my vet had recommended. Good luck

the only reason that I can think of is because you have other female animals in the house. it doesn't have to be a cat. a female dog can cause the cat to keep spraying. when the female goes into heat keep the cat outside. or if there is a female animal outside keep the cat inside. that spray can destroy furniture carpeting etc...

Do you have another cat or animal in the house?? Toms are very territorial....as long as theres another animal it's almost impossible to get them to stop.
Good Luck

It could be when he was neutered they didn't get everything - take him back to the vet and explain the problem.

I would ask your vet; he may be able to advise a temporary hormone treatment, or products to spray on furniture or wherever. He could also have bladder trouble, so its best to ask the vet.
