I am a convert to Catholicism from a fundamentalist Christian denomination. I am tired of the many myths out there concerning Catholics and I am curious to know what you believe about us, why you believe it, and where you learned it.

Sorry but we do not worship the Pope. No more than you worship your doctor. We respect the Pope.

Less than actually 1% of priests have ever been accused and not all of them are guilty. There are I would venture to say at least an equal amount of these in all faiths and denominations.

How do you explain this scripture: "Peace be to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.... Receive the Holy Spirit; whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain they are retained." John 20:21-23
This is where we "get" the authority for sins to be forgiven.

As for our "repetitive prayer" it is an aid to meditation no where is it required.

And now you know why religion is the scurge upon mankind. We will not know peace unless we can irradicate this menace.

I feel that any so called Christian organization that harbors as many pedophiles and homosexuals in their priesthood/leadership as the Catholic church has some VERY serious problems.

And, the fact that Catholics are seemingly blind to these facts or seemingly don't think that it's a big enough issue to call for some drastic reform (God forbid that they use the word "reformation") or even consider leaving the Church is also, to me, an indication of a sickness of the worst kind. Jesus said "If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"

And, the problem is that this kind of crap has gone on for centuries in the Roman Catholic Church. It's not that other Christian denominations are perfect. There are rotten apples in every barrel. But, the wide spread horrific crap that is lying under the surface in Roman Catholic leadership is rampant. If you're a Catholic, you need to wake up and take a serious look at the unbelievable mess that you have and the utter disgrace it is to the cause of Christ.

Well , there are many differences.

One big one is that Catholics believe that you still need a "middleman" to be forgiven. And that this middleman will give you the way to be forgiven.

Gods own word teaches that the curtain was torn from the top down, eliminating the old need to have a priest (Levite) offer your sacrifice for you.

We are now in the age of grace, GOD sent the holy spirit to dwell within us, our "middleman" is now within us and we have no need to confess to a priest, nor are we to do "things" for this forgiveness i.e. seven hail mary's etc.

Repetitive prayer as the heathens do. Its written down in the bible. It is wrong, and the rosary and other lithergies of the Catholic church still rely on repetative prayer.

As I said, there are many more , but these should get you started studying the bible and what it says as opposed to what the church does.
I married a Catholic man, and it was not until he studied and read for himself, that he saw the light so to speak.

I am Protestant. I am Baptist. I don't know enough about Catholics to make a decision about all of them. I know it the Bible says to 'pray unto God' but doesn't say word one about praying to Mary although I understand the reasoning.
I don't agree with asking a priest for forgiveness when you should be asking God for forgiveness.
That's the extent of my knowledge on it.

You worship your pope! He is just a man. He dies with old age. How can he forgive or save you.

Ephesians 4:4-7
4-There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5-One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6-One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7-But unto every one of us is given grace according to measure of the gift of Christ.

I'm Catholic myself but I've heard a lot of strange misconceptions like only priests are allowed to read the bible and take communion. I'm curious to see what others say.
