Nothing that stains! For the kids I would do hot dogs and little fruit cups (fresh fruit if there is time), and cup cakes (white icing- it doesnt stain) get some of that colored ketchup and make it fun for them. String cheese is always a hit with the little ones. Try the web-site I attached! Lots of fun ideas

My daughter did a "Rubber Ducky" theme for her child that I thought turned out wonderfully. Wilton has a mold for a 3 dimensional "Rubber Ducky" cake that takes only a box of cakemix. Tint portion of icing orange (beak), leave some white for eyes and use candy for irises. Make the rest of the frosting yellow and you are in business. Accessories for this party can be found at rubberducky.com

Small but fun.
pizza on english muffin rounds, pbj cut into shapes that match your theme...just buy cookie cutters. The metal ones help seal the corners.
Baby carrots, grapes cut in 1/2, slices of banana (freeze them so they're less messy)
Do cupcakes insteard of a big cake. They all love to hold the cupcake and mom doesn't have to sit there with a fork feeding her toddler.
Have sippy cups to go around. It can be the favor they take home.

Letting kids dip pieces of fresh fruit (strawberries, pineapple, apples slices) in chocolate dip is fun for their age. If you're worried about stains whipped cream is a good solution. This is a lot healthier than traditional ice cream and cake. Finger foods are the best way to go. chicken finders, little piggies in a blanet, things like that. (and they have dips too). Little ones love to eat with their hands and dip things in sauces.

face it - a party for a 2 yr old is really a party for the adults.
the kids don't care if you fill the yard with old refridgerator boxes and give them bubbles to play with. go easy on your wallet, they won't remember their 2nd b-day anyway!
