Should I flush the toilet?

Question

My office has a single toilet rest room. Several times when I go in to wash my hands, I notice that the toilet is not flushed. My predicament if someone goes in immediately after me, they might think that "I" did not flush it; at the same time I don't want to be flushing for someone else. There is already a 'Please Flush After Use' board displayed. Do you think I should go ahead and flush it whenever I see it .. though I did not use the toilet?

The people who are not flushing pee may be sustainability folks. Because less flushing is good for the environment. It's a different set of values. They may actually not agree with the flush after use sign. You need a wider discussion on this at the office. Start asking your co-workers if they notice the same thing and what's up. The whole office needs to talk about this. Who put the flush sign up after all? I have been at many places where flushing is not allowed unless it's #2.

I hate that ! If that somebody doesn't want to flush, then they shouldn't use the toilet. Next time you come out comment loudly how you wish people would take more care and flush after using toilet.

I believe that it is only a polite gesture to flush the toilet if someone else has used it. You should not desire to stand or sit while dealing with an unflushed toilet. One should flush it if only for sanitarty reason.
I have always made it a habit to flush after use.
Of course, this is up to you.

perhaps next time you go in the restroom and notice that someone has not flushed, find a manager and say: i've noticed more and more lately that someone is not flushing. is there a problem with the tiolet? maybe they're not holding the handle down long enough? for sanitary reasons maybe you could say something to everybody about reminding them that they are not at home, and while at the office, they should remember to flush...and make sure that it ALL goes down! i've noticed a couple of times that my boss has failed to flush, and it grosses me out to have to flush his 'waste', and then have to go myself.. EWW!

The people who work around/with you don't have hygiene. Yuck. I would flush the toilet so you wouldn't be accused but still report it to someone that people are not flushing the toilet!!!!

I would definitely flush it because I wouldn't want the person behind me to think that I was the one who didn't flush. I would also make a bigger "Please flush after use" sign and maybe the one who's not flushing will get the hint.

I wouldn't flush it. What if it overflows or something. Just tell the person that comes in behind you that someone forgot to flush. You shouldn't have to flush someone elses mess.

in the first place, you should always flush.

if you have ever had the disturbing splash-back come up and hit your behind, then you can understand why the toilet should be flushed in the first place.

I would flush it, personally. It only requires a small amount of effort. And you get yahoo answers-like points in the universe.
