Actually, I work at a place that had flooding in the basement. There are old files that got at leat 2-3 inches of water. Now, when I come into the office it smells mildewy. Can this effect my health?

Molds are globs of fungi or bacteria. Mildew is too much humidity, you can get a dehumidifier. And separate humidifier.
These items should be state law in clinics and hospitals, even fast food restaurants. This creates a bubble, dont get use to it or go 100% germ free.
It puts an extra strain on your immune system, they are also food for paramecium or ameobas.
You should wear gloves, mask, and googles when cleaning these. Either they jump on your face or the solvents too strong.
HEPA filters such as sharper image, conair, honeywell, bonair, ... help prevent these from spreading thru the room. Measure the room before buying one.

Our home was damaged in the hurricane, and mold was growing everywhere ... we had to move due to our health.

My kids are highly allergic to it ... like anyone is allergic to pollen, dust, etc ... and stayed down with "hay fever" type symptoms, even asthma. I had these symptoms, plus a neverending battle with what my doctor called strep throat (spelling?) White blisters were constantly covering my throat ... it felt like I was swallowing needles.

We finally found a new place to live, and we're much better now.

If you're prone to allergies or asthma, you're at an added risk. I'd discuss it with someone asap. I'm sure your employers don't want a lawsuit.

Yes it can, especially if you have any allergies. Breathing in mold spores on a regular basis can also cause some diseases.
Wearing a mask can help.

Has the Health Dept checked this out for the company?
