The main difference is that Catholics tend to put Mother Mary upon a spiritual pedestal, making her a saint. 2nd to Jesus. They also require their religious clergy take a vow of celibacy. This being because they think a priest should be married to the Church. Baptist, Lutherans, Methodist, Presbyterians, etc. View Mary as a virgin, mother of Christ...a chosen one, but not Christ like. They also allow their clergy to marry. There are several other differences...but I'll bore you to tears.

The baptist are told what to believe from the pastor and are told to give a certain amount of their pay check to the church. Baptist encourage to look down on others and believe that they are bad and going to hell.
Catholics go to church and come to their own conclusions and beliefs, and help others to find Jesus. Catholics are asked to monetary support their church with whatever they can. Catholics do not put down other religions, do not stand up in front of the congregation and call others names and put them down. Catholics are taught that everyone has faults and to accept them and to love others. Catholicism has been around since the beginning of time. Baptist was made up by some man and brain washed enough people to get a following and have this "created religion" take root.

I went to a First Baptist school so I can fill you in on that one, (it's completely different from Baptist, which I know nothing about) They believe you don't have to go to church every Sunday to get into heaven, you just need to believe in God and Jesus. No fancy stuff like Catholics, church there is just a guy in a suit talking. They also beleive in baptism, where you just get dunked into water as a form of washing away sins. It was never done to me, and they never made a big deal about it, so not strict about it.

They do have strange beliefs which I disagree with, to them dancing is considered evil and so is celebrating Halloween. They never made a big deal about either, it was just an unsaid thing. I'm curious to find out about other religions too....like Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, ect.

I was raised baptist and am now Catholic.
Baptists believe that only scripture is important not tradition. Catholics accept sacred tradition as well as scripture.
Baptists teach once saved always saved.
Catholics teach that one has to follow Christ as well as believe. One cannot lose ones salvation but one can throw it away.
Baptists believe only those of the age of reason should be baptized and that it is symbolic
Catholics believe that Baptism is often when the parents promise to raise their children in the faith. Confirmation is when that child after studying chooses the faith for themselves.
Baptists believe that communion or "the Lords Super" is purely symbolic
Catholics believe that Christ is Truly Present in the Eucharist. Christ did not say "this stands for my body which will be given up for you." Christ said" take and eat, This IS my Body which will be given up for you."
Baptist believe that only God can forgive your sins and that they are automatically forgiven. Catholics belief that Christ gave his disciples the ability to forgive sins note the verse "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whoever sins you forgive they are forgiven him whoever sins you withhold they shall remain.
These are just some of the main beliefs. There is much that we do have in common. One Lord, One Christ, One Baptism. The Holy Trinity. The resurrected Lord!

Peace of Christ be with You,
Debra

The Catholic faith is summed up in the Nicene Creed.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us men and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary , and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

In addition to what is stated in the Creed, Catholics believe in transubstantion which the the doctrine that the the bread and wine offered in the Mass is changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ although remaining in the appearance of bread and wine.

Despite what some people believe Catholics do not worship Mary or the saints. Catholics do pray to Mary and the saints. However praying to Mary and the saints is not prayer of worship. It is asking mary and the saints to pray on our behalf just as someone would ask a friend or relative to offer prayers for a certain intention.

When you boil it all down, this is the difference...

Roman Catholic doctrine says that God has allowed people after the apostles died to create or change the tenents of the faith. For example, they believe that the Pope's words are as infallible as Jesus' or St. Peter's.

Protestants (Baptists, Lutherans, etc.) believe that the only source of truth is the Holy Bible.

i asked this last week and got bambarded with crazy ppl.

but i am christian, and after pickin the nuts out of my cookie, this is what i got.

catholics do not believe when you die, you can no longer be contacted by people still living. for whatever reason, they think if you die, and go to heaven, you will hear prayers from your loved ones on earth.
apparently cuz Jesus died, and we can pray to him. this is why they believe this. Crazy, i know. hard to imagin Jesus can do something, and we cant. duh!

they also dont get saved. for whatever reason, they are not taught to have a loving personal relationship with Jesus. Like he's too cool to talk to or something. not sure on that exactly.

Good Luck!
God Speed!
oh also, they like dont have a complete bible. apparently theirs is different from ours. but they all claim to be the same as christian. lol.
weird.
