I'm a mom of a soon-to-be kindergartener. When does everyone back to school shop? Do you wait for all the deals? Do you really find any deals? Where's the best places to shop? How much to you plan to spend? And lastly, what is on your list....clothes, shoes, backpacks, pens, pencils, etc.

I shop in stages. When Walmart puts out the Garanimals stuff (my daughter can still wear the pants) I'll grab what I need as soon as they come out because they go quick. Before school starts, I'll make sure she has a nice outfit (first day) and a few tops and pants in good shape that fit, along with shoes, sneakers, and whatever is on her school list. Then in September once school has started, I'll do more shopping at Old Navy or whatever once the sales hit. I did some shopping at the end of last year, but I'm not sure what will fit and what won't.

As for best places to shop... I love going to outlet malls. There are two around here within a 4 hour drive, and if I'm headed that way anyway, I'll make time to stop. Those are great for coats, raingear, etc... pretty much anything you know you'll need when you get there.

Fun, right?

I understand where you are coming from. I too am a mom of a soon to be kindergartener and have found myself purchasing some of the school supplies whenever I found myself at Walmart.
I know some of the other parents went out and purchased their son or daughters school supplies not long after the school mailed out our lists.
My husband and I will be officially taking our son back-to-school shopping sometime next month but that will mainly be for a few outfits, shoes and just some back up supplies of things that I know he will need to replenish throughout the year ie crayons, markers, glue etc.
I hope this helps you.

get the school uniforms now if possible because the stores sell out of certain styles and sizes quickly but don't take off the tags or throw away the receipts in case something does not fit in August
check district regulations on backpacks..some can only carry clear or mesh so go ahead and get that too.
save the shoes for last...their feet grow so quickly
get a supply list from the school website or office and get the stuff on sale at Target or Office Depot or Staples and get extra crayons and pencils and folders to keep in a special box of extra school supplies in case the teacher sends a note for something and you don't have time for a trip to the store some night. some of the office supply stores and Target have some of the supplies on sale now.

I start Back To school Shopping before school is even out for the summer. I have 3 kids to put clothes on and buy supplies for. And in 3 years I will have 4 kids going to school. I started May 15th to be exact, starting early august for us is OUT of the question since school here starts August 9th.

I pick up there supplies also through the summer. You will be surprised at just how much a kindergartner's supplies are. With just my 3, mine are going into 4th, 3rd and Kindergarten; I spend just over 120.00 on supplies NOT including backpacks.

Start when YOU need to.

Like about in a month. I usually do wait for the deals. You get a better money deals so u can get other things on the money that u save. Like Kohl's or JCPenny. I buy a lot, but it depends on how much of a spender u r. School list, clothes shoes, mainly what u said.

The schools should provide a back to school list for pens etc. Sometimes chain stores have the lists for local schools so you dont have to worry. Get lots of bleachable clothes and shoes you can throw in the wash. I also scotch guard backpacks shoes, and jackets so they stay clean longer

At the very last second... just kidding. Usually when the lists start coming out from the schools.. Walmart usually has lists right in the beginning of the store and where the school stuff is. I think they will come out soon i saw "back to school" signs this weekend.

I always shop at Wal Mart in the beginning of August... What I always buy the most of is notebook paper, but I don't think your kindergartener will need too much of that. Just buy according to the school supply list. I also wouldn't buy too many clothes because little kids grow fast, or too nice of clothes because they like to get dirty.

The sooner the better! if you wait till the last minute you might not get what they will want/need and plus the crowds are terrible..I usually go to Walmart or Dollar Store for like crayons and tissues.... some schools are different expecally if it is private or public.....extra set of clothes including underwear, nap mat, big pencils, crayons, facial tissues, ziplock bags, paper towels, and alot of stuff you have to get from school.

I'm going back to school shopping when school is about to begin. I don't really wait for any deals. Office Max is a godd place to shop. Mainly #2 pencils, markers, colored pencils, tape, white out, ect.
