Hey Christopher S. I have been to Hell. And George Burns is waiting there for you. He says he's going to kick your *** for stealing his anal probe.

thump! thump! That is the sound of the north american biblebeater (holierthanthou-hypocritus)
when it is feeling threatened.
This defense like that of the ostrich burying it's head in the sand is a fear triggered reaction, in as much that any question pertaining to thier beliefs that may inadvertantly cause them to think outside the box of thier dogma incites immediate reaction to stimuli.
However unlike the ostrich, this is often an agressive reaction where the threatened will attempt to destroy rational thought by burying it with as many obscure and tangent proverbs and bible quotes as it can muster, all while feigning self-righteous indignity.
While not highly intellegent they can be extremely dangerous in the large herds they tend to congregate in.
This intolerant human species has done more to harm the christian religion than all other sects combined, thus proving that the words of gods were never meant to go directly to the minds of the sheeple for thier own interpretation, and that thier forsaking of the Priest appointed over them shall prove thier downfall. (which of course pride goeth before, say thankya.)

Not that I believe in one religion over the other (because I think we are all entitled to our own personal beliefs) but when others start poking fun at individual beliefs then I can see how ignorant individual's, like yourself, are. And NO I am not christian or catholic. As much as I do not expect a christian or catholic to ridicule me for personal beliefs, they should not be ridiculed either. No one individual can point out whether any religion is right or wrong but generalized comments such as the one you made deserves a nice 'do you realize how stupid you sound when you open your mouth to speak?'

I had to edit my comment because after reading your Bio I had to make another comment. As a 'witch' and high priestess of your own coven you should be well aware of the law of threefold - and a true wiccan would NEVER even entertain the notion of asking such a question.

It depends on context. If they are answering a question that was something like "what does the Bible say about..." then quoting the Bible is appropriate. It's also appropriate to quote it if they are answering a question a Christian asked and know it will be seriously considered.

But it's asinine to quote the Bible to people who don't already accept it as anything more than just another book on questions that are not of the form "what does the Bible say...".

Its all a matter of opinion.
I don't think other Christians sound stupid.
I don't think other people from other religions sound stupid when they quote their religious books of beliefs. Its what they believe and they have every right to that opinion or belief system. Faith is a wonderful thing. Being passionate enough to quote what you believe in shows determination and love for their creator.
Just because you disagree, it doesn't make it stupid.

How dare you! The bible speaks -nothing- but the truth from God! For example:

"Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." Psalms 137:9 (look it up!)

Exactly! Of course god wants us to take small children and bash their skulls into the rocks! And this proves exactly how intelligent we are when we use the bible as the end-all source to answer all questions. Clearly, it is absoloutly infalliable in any way!

If a Christian is asked a religious question, how do you expect them to respond? If I ask a Muslim a religious question, I am going to expect them to talk about the Koran, etc. If you ask someone a philosophy question, whouldn't you expect him to quote philosophers? While there may be room for one's own opinion, an answer that also backs that opinion up with some authority is a better answer. For religious questions, those authorities are religious texts.

Our entire religion is based on the Bible. Why would it be stupid to quote from it?
Without the Bible we have nothing to use to base our faith on. It is all we have to learn more about God.
If I were to tell you that I believe that God loves us and doesn't want anyone to die and go to hell, and you asked me why? I would naturally quote John 3:16-17.
How else would I answer your question? What else do I use to back my faith if I don't use the Bible?
I hope I answered your question adequately.

You don't have the Spirit of God to guide you to understanding. Sorry about that.

But not all people are God's people, but the children of disobedience.

You're still alive, so the choice is still for you.

Remember this as evidence that there is a difference in the way things are understood. Evidence that God does guide his people to understanding, and that those that do not understand are not his people, just like He said.

Evidence that you have trouble with. Not me.

I doubt they realize how stupid they sound. I've gotten into several arguments with them and they all do, all the time, every last one of them.
They sincerely believe what their storybook says is true, and of course as you probably know, what you want to be true you can convince yourself is true until you're blind to anything else.
The Bible makes them comfortable, so they believe it; they take it to be the absolute truth of God, as if God himself came down and wrote it by his own hand (which of course even they know isn't true; that is, if they're even half-educated). This absolutist belief makes them think that it's their duty to force you by whatever means to convert to their religion.
You just have to bear with their idiocy; it helps to laugh quietly at them whenever they start bashing you over the head with Bible verses, knowing just how stupid they sound without even realizing it.

Well, the Bible does say the carnal mind will not understand and will think it's foolishness. (You are suppose to think that.) Just another way that people like you continue to prove the Truth and relevancy of the Bible in the modern world.

So when I quote the Bible, I sound stupid to you. Do you realize how silly it is for someone to pray to a tree?
