North Cornwall is a beautiful area, but by camping, do you mean on a camp-site, or proper backpacking and pitching your tent where you end up? If so, start off near Tintagel, there are a few small moorland type areas round there where you can peacefully pitch your tent.

If by North Cornwall you mean the northern coast of the county, don't miss St Ives and Bude, but given Newquay a wide berth!

Ulric is right - give Newquay a wide berth.

Tintagle is beautiful for camping. About 5 miles out of Tintagle itself is a beautiful campsite. On one side of the road is the main site, shop, reception and showers etc and on the other side of the road its the overflow campsite but its the best one! Because it has spectacular views over the cliffs on and onto the sea.

There are also some nice sites near to Newquay (but not too close) around Watergate Bay. It is a beautiful beach BUT be warned it will be very busy around there now as Jamie Oliver has opened a resturant on the beach!

Enjoy!

perran sands near perranporth its a haven caravan park but tents are pitched at the back of the campsite with clean toilet and shower blocks and a burger king and fish and chip restaurant for when it's too rainy to light your camp fire! i had a wicked time there and its a good base for getting around that part of Cornwall you have to go to WORLD IN MINIATURE just for the craic!!
