I was heavy at your age too. What helped me was to count every single calorie that I put in my mouth. I measured and weighed everything before I ate it. I ended up losing a lot of weight and at the same time I learned to control my eating so that I didn't have to count the calories forever. Here's the formula I used.....

First you have to determine your activity level on a scale of 1 (no activity) to 5 (a LOT of activity). Then find your activity number

1=13
2=15
3=17
4=19
5=21

Next determine your ideal body weight, your doctor can help you with this (who you should talk to before you start any diet). Next, multiply your ideal body weight by your activity number. Say you want to weigh 130 and your activity number is 15, 130x15=1950. The result is the number of calories you should eat in one day.

It's okay to shave off a few extra calories at first, but no more than a couple hundred or you will get weak and run down. Starvation and not eating enough calories will cause your body to store EVERYTHING you eat because it thinks there isn't any food available. This will make it much harder to lose weight and is very dangerous.

When I lost my weight I also adhered to a low-fat diet. There was no such thing as the Atkin's diet or anything like that, but this worked for me. Make sure everything you eat has 30% or less calories from fat. Here's the formula for that (hope you paid attention in math class).

A gram of fat has 9 calories. So to determine the percetage of fat you take the fat grams multiply by 9 and divide by the calories. Say something has 100 calories and 3 grams of fat. 3X9/100=.27. That's 27% so it's okay.

Hope this isn't too long of a read, but I know what you're going through and this is really the only thing that ever worked for me. It takes a lot of will power but your health and happiness will be well worth it! I ended up being a size four for years before I had a baby, now I'm a six but the extra size is well worth it....you will see what I mean some day ;).

It is a simple solution, that is not so simple to do:

Eat less and move more.

It makes sense, sounds easy, but I personally know that it isn't. It is something you have to consiously do EVERY DAY! I wish I had started a lot sooner. I am now 44 years old and it is very difficult.

You are lucky you are still young. Start small. I am sure you are not stupid, you know what foods are fattening and which ones are healthy. Try to substitute healthy foods like fruits for unhealthy ones like candy or cakes. Get up and away from the computer for little while. Even if once every half hour you get up and stretch and try to touch your toes 5-10 times. Maybe even go for a walk. Start with a walk to the end of the block and back. Don't overdo it, but increase your activity a little bit every day.

Remember, it is YOUR body. No one is going to take better care of it than you. So respect yourself and take care of yourself. Start NOW, don't wait until tomorrow, or next week or whenever. That is what I did and now I have bad knees, a bad heart and other problems.

Good luck ! You can do this!

First of all, you need to change your lifestyle.
Consult a doctor, to see if your fat is because overeating, not because a problem. I have been there and thank God, I could make my way out of it!
Junk food, don't see it, taste it or smelled it!
Forget sugar, use Splenda, refined flour. potatoes, corn, watermelons etc.
Eat only complex carbohydrates, fruits ( beware of the sugar here also); veg, cheese ( care full with the fat) meats, preferably white ones.
Don't fry, steam, bake, or boil.
Have a good breakfast, and don't skip any meals.
When you finish eating, try not to finish all. Left always for tomorrow.
Eat in small dishes, drink a diet soup before eating or when you have a craving.
Walk, begin some exec. bike, swim, some sports.
Hope this can help you, but remember the best is to go to the doctor to check you first.!
It isn't easy, but it isn't impossible either

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a fitness calculator that you can put on your cell phone and computer. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as white potatoes) and drink lots of water.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with excellent resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter.

A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com

Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. Email me if you want a good indoor air purifier recommendation and if you have other questions.

You're on the right track since you realize there is a problem and also on the bright side, you're still young. I would join a gym and hire a personal trainer. Personal trainers dont just yell at you anymore and tell you to work harder. They'll assess your current physical condition and create a workout plan for you specific to your goals. If you're worried about the foods you're eating, they can refer you to a nutritionist as well. Good luck!
