I would like to quote from a version of the Bible wherein Jesus is represented as saying: "Think not that I came to destroy the Law [Torah] and the Prophets [prophethood]. I did not come to destroy them, but rather to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments [from the Law] and teaches men so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the Kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." [Matt. 5:17]

Deuteronomy 14:8 (English Standard Version)

And the pig, because it parts the hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch.

Because, when it suits them, they like to say that everything in the old testament was done away with (that was all 'nailed to the cross' is a favorite expression) and that's why they don't follow the dietary prohibitions.

On the other hand, when it suits them, they like to follow other old testament laws to the letter--for example, anything about homosexuality, adultery, idol worship and so on.

Jesus Christ spent his time teaching from old testament philosophy for that is all that the people understood. The Holy Ghost factor, gives men the power to become Sons of God (see Galations 4) So if you are a child, then you may not eat pork. If you are a son, you may eat what ever you want.

Below Peter is struggling with being a child (with limitations and restrictions) and being a son, (with authority). His experience transformed his view of food forever.

Act 10:10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

Act 10:11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

Act 10:12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

Act 10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

Act 10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

Act 10:15 And the voice [spake] unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, [that] call not thou common.

Act 10:16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

Though this is a parallet to even greater truth about the gospel being for ALL men, lets not forget the lesser truth, which is nothing god created is unclean.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:

Because Christian believe that Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection was the fullfillment of the law. He said he came to fulfill them. So at the time he was speaking (before his resurrection) those laws were still in effect. After his resurrection, those laws are replaced by a "righteousness that exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees", a righteousness - not based on keeping rules and regualtion, such as not eating pork - but on having a reborn heart through the new birth offered by Jesus.

Take the time to read the book of Acts in the New Testament. The whole issue of eating pigs (and other unclean animals) is dealt with in the history told in that book. It caused a major stir at that time, even to the point of having to a council meeting to determine the church's stand on the issue. It will explain the Christian stand on the issue.

Jesus fulfilled the prophecies and the Law and forgave us for our sins, which our the wrongs against the Law. And what was to be accomplish is now accomplished through the finished work of Jesus Christ, when He died on the Cross for our sins and rose again the third day. Thus, now we live under the Law of Grace because of Him, and not because of our works...

Also the righteousness of hypocrites (the scribes and Pharisees) accounts to nothing. As does all the righteousness of humans. And we needed someone perfect to rescue us who of course is Christ. So smile, laugh! If you're saved by God's grace and eat bacon!

Because we are not under the law of the flesh.
We are under the Law of Grace.
We are allowed to do whatever we ant.
But a real child of God will not want to do what displeases God.
I try to avoid pork as much as possible...but i'm still free to eat it if i choose to.

whynotaskdon is incorrect.
It's not the Levitical that we are not under...the Levitical Law was not complete. It had not yet been fulfilled.
That's why they were under the LAW OF THE FKESH (which is death).
The completeness of God's Law has been fully fulfilled and revealed.
It's the Law of Grace...the Law of Love.
It is Perfect Love.
If you're not born again, as the Old Testament Jews, you can never undertand this.

contained in the early years of Christianity, maximum Christians were Jews. finally many Gentiles were switched over and an truly good controversy erupted over no matter if or not they had to keep the regulation or no longer. contained in the accurate it became determined that Gentile converts doesn't be circumcised nor may they be envisioned to persist with the regulation with yet some issues. maximum of those do no longer note anymore. Jesus stated it became no longer what is going contained in the body that makes one unclean yet what comes out. also Peter had a ingenious and prescient wherein an truly good white textile got here down from heaven full of foodstuff that became haram in Judaism. God stated to Peter, kill and devour! Peter stated "no longer some thing unclean has ever touched my lips." God stated "What I actual have made sparkling you have not got any top to call unclean!" those may be the significant rationalization why Christians are not from now on sure by technique of the nutritional guidelines of the Hebrew Bible. Christians say that the laws of the Old Testament were "completed" by Jesus, meaning they no longer to be obeyed, presumably because of His sacrifice on the cross, for us. However, they are real selective on just which O.T. laws were "completed"--for some reason, you can eat pork, but being gay is still a sin. Doesn't make any sense, does it? But like they said in 'Nuns on the Run", if it made any sense, you wouldn't have to accept it on faith, would you??

Acts 10:9-16

On the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.

But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance;

and he saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,

and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air.

A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!"

But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean."

Again a voice came to him a second time, "What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy."

This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into the sky.

You are CORRECT SIR. But, no offense Jesus said in

Matt 15:7 - 15:11

" Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

"These people draw near to Me with there mouths, And honor me with there lips, But there heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me. Teaching as doctrine the commandments of men"

When HE had called the multitude to Himself. He said to them,
"Hear and understand: Not what goes into the mouth defiles a mean: but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."

I think the thing that needed to pass was Jesus's crucifixion. So, it did, and he completed--actually obliterated--the need for Jewish laws.

I'd say the Beautitudes are more the new laws Jesus had in mind for the New Covenant.

All the non-pork eating, no homosexual stuff is replaced by love. Well, I guess not love of pigs.......

But you get my drift.

This was changed because of a vision from God that was given to Peter in Acts 10:9-16. Peter was instructed that food cannot condemn you whether it is from the old testament forbidden list or has been sacrificed to false idols. "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."

This was also to teach the Jewish Christians that gentiles can be Christians too.
