Can both co-exist? Or, will I be deceived by one more than the other?

Jesus says, "So don't ever worry by saying, 'What are we going to eat?' or 'What are we going to drink?' or 'What are we going to wear?' For it is the Gentiles who are eager for all those things. Surely your heavenly Father knows that you need all of them! But first be concerned about God's kingdom and his righteousness, and all of these things will be provided for you as well. So never worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:31-34)

They can co-exist. You need material things to survive. Once that's done, then it is up to you how much of your time/effort into material or spiritual.

Personally, I got run down with debt, trying to make more money, etc. I realized one day that money is only good for the basics and once I had that covered, I don't worry.

Neither. Your goals should be focused on considerations deeper than mere materialism or spirituality. You only have so many years to live, and it would be a shame to waste them in a focus on material goods or spiritual fantasies.

Your goal should be to be as happy as you can be (short and long term) while not getting in the way of anyone else's happiness. You work those two things out, everything else will be fine. Excessive material goals are not real goals, they are just greed and a symptom of unhapiness.

They should be both, yes they can co-exist and more important is for you to read daily @ the morning both goals, so you can decide which one you will do first and be stronger with your soul and yourself.

Spiritually based always looking to please God, never spiritually competing with anyone else whether it is public or secret.

When you are well spiritually, when you seek God, God adds everything else, all the financial blessing you need, all the material things you need, everything will come additionally when you trust in God.

Goals should be set spiritually. with our laws it's very hard to not need material possession and I believe that God understands this but also Jesus said that to truly follow him we need to rid ourselves of possession and give it all away.

Just think if you goals are based around material items, people can take away or destroy those goals. but if they are spiritual goals no one can take those away or destroy them.

You goals should be defined by your inherent values. Those two do not compete. Follow your heart to find your true path.
