It might. It depends on how much you care about each other, how easily you can communicate cheaply (how about chat on the messenger) and messenger and email, and whether or not there's any hope of you guys getting together in real life within a reasonable time frame. I have a blog friend who is Australian who married an American and they met online; it is possible, but you need to be aware that sooner or later if you want to be truly serious, somebody is going to have to go somewhere to meet the other and live there. Just in case you're wondering, it's a myth that you lose your US citizenship if you become a citizen of another country (this I know, my American partner is now here in Canada with me and he checked to make sure he would lose his citizenship, mainly to calm down worried relatives, lol).

My long distance relationship worked. I was living in California, we met there, she was from England. Three years later and we're married and I'm living in England. If you want it to work, it'll work. It won't be smooth sailing though.
