I think that more and more as our society has "progressed" it's been in self indulgence. Where as people such as Jews have a strict law to live by and concequneces for their sins, America has done away with the consequences giving greater allowance for depravity in this so called progression of society. It used to be that people didn't have premarrital sex so much because they didn't have the pill, abortion was illegal, condoms weren't very effective and so on. Our culture has made allowences for such things to happen so that people can maek those bad decisions with little to no fear of what might happen due to it.
This isn't just in the aspect of sex, but our legal system, our media and so many other things. God has always said to not have any other god before and this love of self within our society is definitely an idol that people bow down to. Their idol is a mirror basically.
Our laws originally were established with Christian principles and when they established the separation of church and state it was to keep the state out of the church, not the church out of the state. When the American colonies decided to break free from the tyrany of England that was exactly wha they were going through, a government controlled church and the colonist knew that they needed freedom to serve God individually. The law has been twisted to keep God out of our courtrooms, our schools and and we wonder why rapist, child molesters and murderers get away with their crimes and it's no wonder why there are all these school shootings. No fear, or reverence of God in a place and it gets bad very quickly.
Also, we live in an age of moral relativism. What's good for me is ok and what works for you is ok. People think that they can choose truth according to their opinion and create a perception of God according to how they think he should be. The problem is that people are doing this according to their own intelect and God is so infinitely greater then what are feeble minds can handle. So God is then dumbed down as a waiter type figure waiting to get whatever these people want and give total allowance for them to do whatever they want, or at least that what they think.
There's no more black or white. Too much grey area so really there's no arguing a point such as abortion being murder. Our society has justified this even going agianst scientific proof that it's a living person to where millions of women are getting abortions every year and about 35% of those women are under the age 14...uggh.
Not all goes against but it seems that as time goes on we watch America slide further and further into this self indulgent, depravity that they like to call progression.

Read the 10 commandments. That should answer your question on American conduct and God.
These lists of moral rules apply to Judaism as well. Buddhism also has a similar list of do's and don't for moral conduct which resemble the commandments.
You should understand that it is not the concept of offending the Almighty... but your fellow man.

We think that we are alright with God when his work says differently. Take homosexuals. There are many gay praise leaders in the African American Churches and God said he is not please with that lifestyle no matter how you feel you got to go that way. All I'm saying is that we want to reap the benefits of God mercies and grace but we don't want to face the reality of his wrath that we all deserve.

Drugs and alchohol are ruining peoples lifes. yet they don't want to change. pornography is a cancer that is spreading rapidly.

Freedom of religion. Man created the theory of god, then man created society, now we don't need god anymore. So now we have separation of church and state, and allot of atheists.

Materialism, homosexuality, fornication, adultery, stealing, murder, hatred, idolatry, worshiping other gods, not honoring your father and mother, taking the lords name in vain, covetousness, lewdness...shall I go on? It's not just America, it's everywhere.
