If you believe in GOD, then know that he gave us free will. Our society (use to) respect that. We have the ability to follow GODs teaching, or ignore it.

Now we have elected people, and radical people who think they know more than GOD, and want to enforce his "will" on everyone.

Know them by their works!

I think the simplest response to this question is: His son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ, son of God, lived in the world for over 30 years - surrounded by the same temptations to sin and the same life events (births, deaths, friendship, betrayal, hardship, etc.) as we do every day but Jesus showed us how we can live a life that brings glory to God.

Given that (but perhaps a bit tangent to your question), Jesus Christ loved God and His creation, Man, so much that he accepted the sin of the world to suffer the wrath of God's anger in our place.

So, I would say that America's deviation from God is their rejection or ignorance to the sacrifice for salvation that was afforded by His son, Jesus Christ. I would also say that those Americans who believe in Jesus Christ agree entirely with the precepts of God.

God is a fictional character, and is a product of society. The real question should be: "What do god and the flying spaghetti monster have in common?"
