My beagle mix Sadie loves to lick my legs, toes, arms, etc. Why does she do this? Does she like the salt on my skin, or is she trying to appease me, the more dominant animal?

They do like the salt, but its not just that. it does have to do with u being the pack leader. they are actually bathing you, but many ppl think of it as kisses. you know how dogs who live together and love eachother usually bathe one another? same thing.

The salt thing is part of it. However, mostly it is a pack behavior. Among wild dogs, the puppies will lick the faces of adults that come back from hunting to get them to regurgitate some of what they have eaten to feed the puppies. Gross, but true.
So, when a dog licks you, it is behaving like a puppy and you are its parent.

The dogs lick their owners because when they were puppies, they licked the alpha dog, the mother, to get her to vomit up some of the hunted food for them. But they reaolize hopefully go give you respect!

well i read in a book that dogs like to lick people because you maynot know this but people have salty flavored stuff on our body. most dogs love to eat and salt is almost a food that is on your body. other reasons are just dogs are sweet and loyal so they would just like to give you a kiss.

She likes the taste of your skin or it could be a way of just telling you she loves you! There are other reasons though

That's just their way of showing you love with their kisses. It's not challenging you or anything like that. She Loves you, pet her head and let her know that you love her also.

Either your dog likes the taste of whatever's on your skin (lotion, sweat) or she's just letting you know she loves you.
