While it is a sad question, it's a caring one. Even if it's your baby's last day, don't go breaking out the human food. If your cat is used to the controlled diet of cat-food, human food will only make his last night horrible. In other words: he'll be puking it back up or be stuck in the litterbox all night.

If you give your cat milk regularly, and know that it doesn't bother him to have X amount. Give him that amount. Don't give him a huge bowl or anything, because cats are generally lactose intolerant and so much will give him diarreha (sp).

Why not go to the store and get a bag of his favorite treats and some wet food? That would make any cat happy as far as I know. My cat enjoys "Aquariyums" she'll stand on her hind legs for those!

But as said, before you go breaking out new foods. You know how your cat reacts to such things. Some cats get sick from wet foods, or milk. Don't guess and make his last night a (literally) poopy one. Give him treats, play with him, nuzzle him until he can't stand it. :) And God be with you both as you take your last ride together.

Oh boy. I am terribly sorry for you.

Having been through this before, I would first recommend that before you take that fateful trip to the vet's, you put away his things. It will be tough, but easier to do when he is with you. Second, spend some time with him. You will know in your heart that to keep him alive is selfish, and that you are doing the right thing for a sweet creature who has given you so much. When animals are resigned to dying (who knows how they know) they just seem to be at peace. He WILL know that he is loved.

As far as his last supper goes, that depends. Tuna is good. My cat has an affinity for chicken. Why not give him a smorgasbord and let HIM decide? He certainly can't tell you. Besides, isn't all he has given you worth a splurge for him? Let him gorge himself on anything you think he might like.

The first few days are the toughest. Best Wishes.

I second the notions of most of these posters.

I do want to add that you should feed kitty at your regular feeding time. Don't make it "special" or kitty will know something is up, but it just won't know what.

Tomorrow, when that time comes, just going by you posting this question, you may wish to be in the room when they put your precious baby to sleep.

I was with my cat, Stormie Gale, and I wouldn't take anything for knowing that her last thoughts and sights were of me, her "moma".

I pray that your kitty has lots of lovin's tonight and a good meal, and I honestly hope kitty passes on at your home, where you won't feel like you made the decision.

But, if not, I will pray for your comfort and peace tomorrow.

I'm so sorry...I'm sure this is very hard for you. We had to put our cat of 15yrs. down due to Cancer a few years ago...it was rough. My family and I had a "party" for him. He LOVES ripping paper and candy wrappers so we made a huge pile of it and let him go at it. We filled his food bowl to the top and invited him to eat as much as he wanted...unfortunately he really didn't have much of an appetite. We gave him lots of lovin' and were with him in the room when he was put down...I think my parents had to pull me away, I just didn't want to leave him :(

I heard that Cats LOVE baby food. My sister's cat was really sick once and the only thing it would eat was baby food (in a jar)--pureed chicken! It's worth a shot. Best of luck tomorrow, I feel for you!

Give him some pureed chicken. Take him outside on the grass to get a bit of sunshine and so you can spend a little tie with him, and give him a very long hug and kisses. I'm sorry! I went through something similar earlier this year with my favorite kitty from all times.

Sorry to hear about your cat's condition. I honestly think most cats would enjoy a good bucket of KFC (Extra Crispy) as a last meal. Most cats don't enjoy collard greens or Macaroni and Cheese, so you might want to keep the side dish for yourself.

I had to do the same for mine just a month ago, had him for 14yrs and it is very sad. Give him his favorite treat along with his meal and lots of loving. I am sorry to hear of your loss.
