Yes you can, but some might advise against it. She would still need to do allot of paper work, and while she might not become a permanent resident or citizen (until the do a background check that takes months to years to complete) she will not be able to visit other countries other than her own. There is also the possibility that you guys break up, that causes allot of paper work as well. For the most part, if you marry her and stay married, they will let her stay with a temporary vista till she becomes a full permanent resident.

If you are a U.S. citizen, you can marry her and she will be eligible for a U.S. citizenship. That just means, she can file the paperwork, it doesn't automatically make her a U.S. citizen, also there is a time limit when you have to file the paperwork. I've heard of people doing this for money, in fact I was solicited for it.
I am British married to a US citizen, we married in Houston. Believe me this does not give me the right to become a US citizen at all. I still have to go through all the long laborious paperwork. Marrying a citizen of the US since 9/11 THERE ARE NO shortcuts........trust me. Thats why my hubby lives in the UK with me now. :))

You really did get some goofy answers. Here is the truth.
If your girlfriend's J-1 visa is annotated "Two year rule does apply" then you can marry her but she still will have to return home for two years. If it says "Two year rule does not apply" then you can marry her and she can apply for an adjustment of status (using form I-485) to legal permanent resident (NOT citizen). If the adjustment is allowed, she's yours to keep.

Actually, you'll want to talk to the people at her embassy. If you don't do things to the letter, then it could end up being a felony.
