How in the world do they appoint gay bishops?

Good question.

Yes, it is a sin in the Anglican church for two singles of any sex to engage in sexual encounters.

I will never understand how they can appoint openly gay bishops. If a bishop is gay and in living a committed life of celibacy, I have no problem with him being consecrated. I do have a problem with a priest being consecrated as a bishop when living opening in any unmarried sexual relationship. I also have a problem with this person remaining active as a priest.

When you say Anglican Church, I'm going to assume you either mean the Anglican Communion, or the Church of England. The USA branch of the Anglican Communion is named the Episcopal Church.

Sexual intercourse in all the Anglican Communion is reserved for the sacrament of Marriage.

As to appointing non-celibate bishops ( gay or not), well, that is what is fueling an extremely heated debate within the AC ( Anglican Communion) right now.
