God does not want to punish you..... so why in the hell would you have to do anything besides asking for forgivness.
Catholics are so stupid. Lutherans are boring, Baptists are fun.

Ok, I guess I got ahead of myself by calling them stupid.
I do agree that their religion is old and founded. So sorry in that respect.
My question here is why do all the hail Mary's(or is that a movie thing), why crawl on your knees, or do something else that is like self punishment?
I don't understand why people would think God want's them to punish themselves to repent. God is indeed forgiving and definatley not a cruel person.

Church does not need to be fun.... but does it need to be boring either? God does not judge you while on Earth. Judgement will come upon death.
I think Catholics beliefs are a little weird but their religion has been around a long time. I love to clap and sing in church. I would much rather enjoy a sermon then fall asleep to one.
If you are being rude to their religion then you need to find some heart and thought.

Strange ideas you have concerning questions. I will just let your words speak for themselves although they seem the musings of a deranged mind. Alright let's see if you can understand this: First the penance that one is given I believe is for two reasons. One, to help you forgive yourself. Two, here's a story, You break a window and you ask forgiveness. Your father forgives you and says he loves you but you still need to learn from your mistake and help replace the window. And I am a Catholic by the way. Also so you know we ARE called to DIE TO SELF.
Peace of Christ.

Without the need to perform penance for our sins, it would be much too easy for us to give ourselves a "free pass" on the sins we commit.
It would be too easy for us to glibly say, "Oh, God is merciful and He forgives me" -- which He does, but taken to an extreme can become cause for us to give ourselves "green lights" for sin any time we want.
Confessing sins openly to one of God's ministers, the priests, is described in the Bible (Acts 19:18-20; 1 John 1:6-10).
Having to do some sort of penance for our sins is also in the Bible. In just one of these cases, King David had admitted to sinning against the Lord when he had Uriah killed so that he could take his wife Bathsheba -- but David was forced to undergo penance anyway, even after he had repented of his sin (2 Samuel 12:14).

Im sorry you feel that way. I am Catholic. I am neither stupid nor dumb. I believe in one God. I believe that one day he will come and take me to live with him in the most beautiful place and I will want for nothing. Everyone has there own idea of who or what God is to them and religion makes not difference. When it all comes down to it God is God and he would never forsake his children., and when judgment day comes I will be there with bells on, waiting to take my place by his side.

You need HELP and badly.
I escaped from that cult ----but I must say, they are not all stupid,.
I am happy to see that you studied the works of Martin Luther long enough to get bored. (Sort attention span??)...
Baptists usually don't dance or drink booze! It is wonderful, and very Interesting that you find them fun to be with. But, on second thought many of the Baptist Churches do have great kiddie rooms with LOTS OF TOYS!

The Catholic Church believes that "Only God forgives sin."
When a penitent person asks God for forgiveness, his (or her) sins are immediately forgiven.
Catholics also believe that when someone sins they not only hurt their relationship with God, they also injure the entire church, the body of Christ. The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation not only reconciles the sinner to God but with the entire church, including you and me.
With love in Christ.
