I have a Mitred Conure parrot. It loves my boyfriend. This bird kisses him cuddles his neck. ALWAYS steps up on his hand. He squacks when my b/f leaves the room. He is much less found of me. He rarely steps up on my hand shacks his head lowers his break and sqacks at me. He will take food from my hand. He has only bite me once kinda hard "never broke skin". hE'S A GREAT BIRD we have only had him a few weeks. He is 15 years old,the person who had him became to old to care for him. He trys to nip at every female person we have had around. He gose to males without a fuss. Qustion is is this normal for a bird to pick ONE person only to bond with? I need him to come to me i'm the one who is alone with him the most. My bf is not here everyday. What can i do to get him to be more friendly to me. He will come to me only at about 8:30 at night to go to bed, he is loose all day only caged 8pm to 8am. He makes more noise when my bf is around also he gets very excited.

I wouldn't worry about your parrot. My parrot does the same. She doesn't like my husband handling her. When we're in patio, in the shower, watching a movie he tries to pick her up and she nips at him. She even says "NO" to him. Birds pick who they want to associate with. Some prefer males over females. There's nothing that you can do to fix this. You need to have him inside the cages and only allow him to come on when you say. I suggest when your b/f is around you should only take birdie outside/inside of the cage. You are the boss and birdie needs to know. If you let him out majority of the day he will most likely take over. In other words he will not want you to pick him up on command. Trust takes time. You are the "big bird." You tell "little bird" when its okay to come out. About the biting, it's more of a nip. If the skin is broken and/or followed by bleeding? It's definitely a bite! Get used to it. It's part of your job as a bird parent. For the squawking, if it gets real bad? With the bird being inside the cage put the bird cover on. When they calm down take it off. This could last from minutes to couple hours, possibly more. Each bird is different. My Amazon doesn't have a problem with noise. I encourage you to talk to your bird, praise him "what a good boy!" Give birdie more attention than your b/f even when he is around. Make arrangements with him.

Ok I know how you feel

I adopted Max My African Grey 2 years ago he was 8 years old then.

He bonded to my dad

I wanted him to like me so I read everything I could to get him to bond to me

Most sources said it cant be done but I refused

Max does the same stuff your Mitred conure did to me.

I started small by offering Max food and reading a book out loud to him, and when I was reading silently I laughed for no reason to get him interested and it worked.

Everyday at any time I encourage Max to step up to me. He would only step up if i said :are You Hungry?" He would screech with joy and step up to me, and I would take him to th ekitchen give him food and put him back.

Sometimes while I prepared his food I would try to pet him or tickle his toes, he liked it sometimes.

After a few months he would walk behind me in the house, to either get food or just to sit with me. He doesnt like being petted by me but will happily sit and watch tv with me.

To this day he still prefers my dad over me and I ask Max "Want to go see Dad?" He then steps up and I bring him to my dad.

He may not be bonded to me but as long as Max is happy and will accept me giving him attention and loving him I am happy.

These things should work for your conure

your bird is probally a she, not a he. and at any rate, it isn't terribly unusual for a bird to bond to one person if not forced to go to other people. however it doesn't sound like this is the case since she will go to other men. keep working with her but don't hope for the same kind of bond she has with your boy friend. as for her screaming when your boy friend leaves the room, its a normal bird thing, she is calling for her flock mates

I have a mitred conure...he only bonds with my dad and no one else. But he likes to sleep under my blankets at night! I don't know why I'm telling you this. I don't know what to do about your bird I'm sorry.
