Costa is a very nice line. They generally cater to a little more sophiticated and well traveled crowd. As far as the Magica, it is also a nice ship. I'm not sure who will be going on this cruise. I feel that the Magica is one of Costas cruises that is nicer for families, some of the other ships are a little better for an adult-only atmosphere.

I don't think that the Magica is one of Costas nicest boats, but it is still great. Costa is an overall great line is great with service, food, etc. But overall it is a nicer, new ship, with pretty good food, nice entertainment and great for families.

If you are looking for an environment with fewer kids, I would look into may Marina, Allegra or Classica. In general, Atlantica and Fortuna are my favorite Costa ships.

Here is a link to some reviews and more information on Magica that I think you will enjoy: http://cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=339

I hope this helps.

Yes, I am a travel agent specializing in cruises. The Magica is a nice ship. Costa is not for everyone, though. They tend to have a more international clientele, and not all Americans like this. Do yourself a huge favor and contact a travel agency specializing in cruises. Stay away from the consumer engines.

It will not cost you any more to go through an agent, and they will be able to make recommendations to you. Also, they will run interference with the supplier if need be.

Anyone who truly sells heavily discounted cruises (and there aren't many) is either what we call a "key agency" or is rebating commissions. There are very few "key agencies". The consumer engines are not "key agencies" - the cruise lines hate dealing with them.

That leaves agencies who rebate commissions. This is a highly unethical practice heavily frowned upon by the cruise lines and both CLIA and IATA (two organizations that provide agents with their certifications and credentials). Many agencies who rebate commissions have been put out of business once they are caught. They have left clients holding the bag. Plus, you really do not want to hand over your hard-earned money to someone who is unethical.

Costa is an Italian cruise line catering to an international clientel. If you go on their ships you will be one of few Americans in a sea of people from many countries. This in and of itself may not be a problem, but the language barrier may be in trying to make friends.

Otherwise the ships are great.
