The most stupid thing a person can do is join the military and learn to shoot a gun or drive a tank through a city so one can get into a position to shoot at a building and kill everyone in it. Then when you get out four years later and go to look for a job you discover you have no skills. All you can do is "Kill" people. Who'd want to hire you? The Post Office? The only thing you can be good at is being a serial killer. I say to all you young smart people. COLLEGE!!! Go To COLLEGE!!! Be someone who can give something good to his community. The military is for foolish people who doesn't want a good life after they get out of the military. this is very simple. Go to College.....Live in a nice home with respect. Go into the Military.....Live in a homeless shelter with the druggies and drunks. It's up to you.

Erudite - having or showing great knowledge gained from study and reading.

Very impressive moniker if valid though it has a glaring omission of knowledge based on actual experience. Howerver, I did read your 360 profile stating you did serve in the military. How did you put it? Oh yes.....

Quote - Ashamed to have been in the military. My dd214 is a worthless piece of paper. Toilet paper is worth more than a DD214. Served six years active duty. An honorable discharge means crap - end quote

Too bad you didn't get a General or Dishonorable discharge, your scholarly opinion would change
....you did volueentered; correct? Why?
My interest peaked I decided to take a few minutes to review a couple of other questions you posted. Here is an interesting one:
= Refuse to pay taxes..I'd bet you do
One of my favorites is
= How come the war in Iraq is going on longer than WWII..IRAQ to date-3 years, WWII- 6 years
Either your great knowledge on history is lacking or you lack basic math skills. Or maybe you are intentionally mis-stating the facts to attract attention.

You claim the most stupid thing a person can do is join the military, learn to shoot a gun or drive a tank allowing a person to shoot at a building and kill everyone in it. First you joined the army and learned to shoot. Did you shoot at a building and kill everyone in it? Can you site a specific example of a soldier who did? I bet not.

After 4 years all you know is how to kill and who would hire you? And being a serial killer is the only thing you could be good at? Again, I am sure you can support these claims.

You admonish the young smart people to go to college and to be able to give back to the community. The military is for foolish people who don't want a good life after they leave the service.
I agree that college is an excellent way to go...if you can afford to go. Not everyone can afford to go to college and the GI Bill offers that opportunity to the foolish people you castigate. Are you willing to assist smart young people to go to college by paying their tuition?

Hey, why didn't you go to college instead of the military. Have you gone to college since your ETS from the service or are you a serial killer based on your training? Oh, if you did go to college did you use the GI Bill? By the way, since all you knew how to do after your 6 years in the military are you unemployed....since as you say; "who'd want to hire you/"

The military is for foolish people who don't want a good life after the military? I guess that includes:
President JK Kennedy (US Navy)
President Eisenhower (US Army)
Colin Powell [former SECSTATE] (US Army)
Chris Headle VP Kendle McGaw (US Army)
John McCain US Senator, AZ (US Navy)
RM Ferree [Dir Federal Sales/SBC] (US Army)
And dozens of US Congressmen and Senators

And while there are prior service member who are homeless and addicted to drugs and booze, so are many college graduates (with and without military service) .

So, now that you have graduated from college what great job to you have? How are you giving back to the community. And most of all, please tell all of us who have served how you over came the damage of having served in the military and avoided becoming a serial killer....unless you are a serial killer.

Final comment, just because you failed as a member of the US military, were incapable of contibuting to your unit's success and apparently (based on your Question) did the absolute minimun to skate by during your 6 years of enlistment (I almost wrote service) doesn't give you the right pass of your opinions as being an erudite individual.

First of all, I didn't join the military because I " had no other choice" I did it because I figured it was the least I could do in order to give back to this great country. Secondly, I did learn how t odrive tanks and shoot a RIFLE, and basically blow the hell out of things. I'm out now, from a scholarship the ARMY gave me, and I was hired on at a job that has nothing to do with the post office making more money than I've ever made before. Why did they hire me...well...I didn't have any skills that they could use except for...my ability to work under pressure...the knowledge of them knowing that I'm dependable....I have people skills that were HONED while I was in the military....they know that I will bust my *** and am willing to contribute to the greater good of their company rather than just serve my own selfish interests, they know that I have leadership potential, that when I'm given a job IT WILL get done!

It's called selflessness, humility, sacrifice, Personal courage, word of honor, you know, all the things that millions of others have fought and died for to preserve the rights and freedoms you use to desicrate us.

Why don't you try and get an education yourself because it's obvious by your blatent ignorance that you have no idea what the military is about, and, that your education to date is based on that of the OPINIONS of a few extremesists...not the facts that a reality based education would afford.

You obviously have never had any experience with the military, or have you known anyone else that has.
First of all, certainly not everyone in the military learns how to drive a tank. My Navy husband has been in for twenty years, and I'm sure I can drive a tank about as well as he can! Further more, the military does teach you many skills. Though I certainly encourage military to take advantage of getting a collage education while they are in, even if they chose not to, many can get a very well paying job on just what they have been taught in the service. My husband has been offered more then one job from companies that are eager to hire someone with his experience in electronics, all of of which he learned in the Military. He has chose to remain in the Navy because we will not only get a retirement check for the rest of our lives, more then enough to cover a mortgage payment and car payment each month, but he is also able to finish college, and have money for law school when he retires in a few years.
My father-in-law is retired Army. Fought in Vietnam and was a Drill Sergeant, among other things in the military. Here he and my mother-in-law are twenty six years after retirement living very well on the skills he was taught in the military, as well as the retirement check they receive each month. And I could continue to list other people with the same kind of success stories.
No, the military doesn't get paid enough for what they do. Their job is dangerous, but that is why only the very brave are willing to go in. But they can come out of the military educated and have a future. So before you go off on what you don't know, check your facts! And be thankful they teach them how to shoot those guns and drive those tanks, so they can protect ungreatful asses such as yourself.

I agree with you that going to college is the ideal choice for young people to have a good life. But you need to consider, before speaking harshly to those who enlist, that many young people can't afford to go to college on their own, and look at the military as a way of gaining opportunities for training and education that otherwise are not available to them. (they are promised training while in the service, and help paying for education afterward.)

Whether or not they receive the promised benefits is another question. But many young people do not join up with the intention of becoming zombie-like killers, but because they feel no other options are out there for them to advance in life. Which in the end is a sad commentary on the "land of opportunity" if everyone doesn't actually have the same opportunities.

Moron:

First...most military members do take advantage of their GI Bills and get their education while serving the military.

Second...They learn leadership skills, and can run a business on their own if they wanted.

Thirdly...There are medics, mechanics, cooks, logistics, supply, Doctors, Legal, Eye techs, X-ray techs, vets, etc., etc., etc. in the military.

So...lesson of the day. Learn what the hell you are talking about before you open your mouth and show how uneducated you are. The only thing you are proving here is...that we should be slapping someone around for the education you received. Whatever school that was...it should be closed. And whoever your teachers were...should be fired and thrown in jail for lying and passing you from grade to grade.

All this time I thought the most stupid thing a person could do was drive a car full of explosives up to a building full of women and childern and detonate it while still in the car. You're right, college does sound better. Go to college and be someone or join the jihad and kill women and childern in the name Allah. It's up to you.

The military is for patriotic people who are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect ungrateful people like you.

It is for people who are willing to put love of country before love of self.

It is for people who want to make a difference, protect people, save lives, and help others enjoy the privileges we have in our great nation.

It is for people with discipline and intelligence who deal with more science and technology than most of us will ever have to in our lives.

It is for people who treat others and themselves with respect.

And it is for people who are more broad-minded than the individual who posted this inane question.
