hair will not grow thicker or more. that is a common misconception. if she is so willing to shave her legs, you protesting will not stop her. she will most likely do it behind your back. sit down and have a talk with her, if she is persistent then show her the proper way to shave her legs to avoid nicks and accidents

The key issue is comfort. You want her to have a positive experience with her maturing body. She may already be teased by friends if the hair is noticable or becoming more apparent. There is no harm in allowing her to shave. She should, however, at this age do so only either with your guided help OR under your supervision. Shaving will not need to recur frequently for some time. How does she feel about the rest of her body? Have you and she begun to discuss what is coming up soon in respect to her changing body (both physically and emotionally)? Do you have the resources you want and need? I am happy to help -- amy_smith_bsw@yahoo.com

Yes, it is true that shaving creates hair that returns thicker and coarser. The key is limiting the frequency until she is a bit older.

I started shaving when i would 12, i don't know why i started i just did! I really didn't even need to at 12!
my hair has got a little more coarse, but you still can't see it when it grows back! Unless you are really realy close!
It's probably what all her friends are doing! ANd she wants to try it out too!
I don't know how you could stop her shaving?! Are you gonna hide all the razors!
Just have a sit down talk with her, asking her why she wants to and maybe you can come to an agreement!
Good Luck!

Do you remember when you were 10 and just discovered boys and your body. I think she is having all those feelings of insecurities and wants to be accepted. I started to shave when I reached (13) JR High and I still regret not waiting longer. As an adult at times I hate shaving.

Shaving your legs is natural for a 10 year old. Maybe pressure from school. But buy her a nice electric rasor. Teach her how to use it and tell her if she wants to start make sure to do it often. I started at 10 and I am happy with it. It makes my legs look alot better with a pleasure to know I am self satisfied and dont have to hide my legs. Your probably a great parent do whats best!

I let my daughter start shaving her legs when she 'graduated' to middle school. I gave her a new cosmetic bag with a pack of Daisy razors, shaving cream and a stiptic pencil in it (for those infamous cuts), but I also sat down on the side of the tub with her and shaved my own legs to show her how to use the razor properly so she didn't cut herself to death like I did when I first started shaving! LOL

you have to pick your battles at this age and shaving is not a battle so take her to the store to pick out creme and a razor and let her go.
the newness wears off soon and then the girls brag to each other how long they have gone since their last shave and the girls talk about shaving so she may have a pretty good idea about what to do and better that you approve and help than for her to spend the night at some other girls home and do it there.

i didnt start shaving my legs until i was 12. my cousin is 11 and she shaves her legs, but she needed to. i think you should tell her that she is to young because i had a lot of hair when i started but thought it would be fun (im sure she does too) and now its just a pain in the butt.

No, that's just a myth. The only way that it will grow thicking is if she grows more hair follicles. You should let her shave, no girl wants to walk around looking like Sasquatch.
