Have you ever heard the Greg Giraldo routine? A guy says to homeless man begging for money - 'Get A Job!' Them man was wearing his UNDERWEAR OUTSIDE HIS PANTS. That might cause some problems during the interview process.

Mental illness is overwhelming throughout the homeless community in ways that interfere with participation in society.

Because when they fall out of the job market, lose car, home, wife/husband, friends they do have a serious problem emotionally . Not to mention where do they clean up for a daily job?. Check out the stats very small number get back in the job market. Now if your talking about the mentally ill we find in large numbers it is the great health care system we have that has no funds to follow up and help them get medicine . Drug addicts and alcoholics find this the bottom and some to get out of the homeless cycle.

I have wondered about this too before, until I actually tried to hire some homeless, beggars and they never worked out. Most of them really did not want to work, others would show up with red eyes, or high on drugs.
My husband and I have given many money and tried to even set them up with temp.housing but they still did not work out.
It is a shame, but if they really wanted to work they could find jobs and work like the rest of us.

In manhattan city panhandling is against the regulation, as properly as in maximum different jurisdictions. Homeless persons could be charged with Vagrancy or Loitering exceptionally in the event that they don't circulate after being informed to by ability of a cop, generally all that's persecution of the undesirable. regardless of the incontrovertible fact that as you element out dishonesty can happen

Would you hire a crack head or a guy who hadn't taken a shower in three weeks to work at your business?

Although for those of you who are interested...have you ever actually seen a crack head work? OMG...too funny. I used to live in an area that was an OK neighborhood, but it was close to Detroit and we got the riff raff coming across the city line. Anyway, occasionally we'd have a crackhead or two come by and offer to rake leaves, mow the grass, do whatever we wanted. Dude...LET THEM WORK FOR YOU. They'll do anything to get that $5 rock, even if it means cutting your grass with a pair of scissors. If you point out something that's wrong, they'll do it again and do it right. Too funny!

Some people who beg aren't capable of doing anything else, because they are mentally ill or otherwise just have problems.

Some people who beg make enough money at it that they don't feel the need to do anything else.

To have a job you need:
An address, clean clothes, hygiene, a reliable way to get up in the morning, show up well rested and usually - a phone.

These people have nowhere to sleep, no way of being clean, no way to get up on time and no way to be contacted.

I wouldn't give them money direct though - no telling what the money will be used on. Support a soup kitchen. Donate to a food bank.

I've always wondered about that, but my friend says that it's not easy for them at all to get a job, even if it's just a hard labour job.

Its a vicious cycle. To get a job you need to have an address for an application. You need to have nice clothes.
