No. It all depends on how you raise them. I have one Jack Russel, Spot, who everyone loves and he loves everyone. He will not bite anyone, nor threaten anyone, unless they try to sneak up on me. But I was firm with him as a puppy. His brother, Scrappy, lives next door, and was allowed to do anything. Scrappy, barks constantly, will try to bite anyone who comes near him. So, if the Jack Russel is bad, it is because of his owner. In my opinion.

If you could see a well-trained working Jack Russell doing the job it was bred to do you would realise how intelligent and well-balanced these dogs are.
Unfortunately they are frequently owned by the wrong people who just want a convenient sized pet.
Jack Russells are tough, brave and tenacious dogs who like to work.
Put a dog like that in a pet home where he is lucky if he gets a walk around the block and a ball thrown for him occasionally ..... then..... watch him go mad with boredom and frustration .......!
Does that answer your question?

Mad angry? Not usually, except at other animals.
Mad crazy? They can be pretty hyper and wild!
JRs are extremely bright, inquisitive and very difficult to train if you're not very experienced and up to the challenge. They will dig up your yard and bark all day if left outside where they can see the world passing by. They will dash around an apartment, jumping on and off the furniture, until you and your downstairs neighbors are insane. They will hang off your kid's clothes and steal anything just to get you to chase them. They will also torment your cat and kill your kid’s hamsters. Hell of a lot of fun or frustration - take your pick! I love and own terriers, but this is why I've never recommened a JR to someone else. An awful lot of them end up in the shelters.
First, if this is your dog and it's a male, get him neutered immediately. A lot of aggression is pent up sexual energy. Also, he'll be much healthier - no fear of prostate problems and cancers later on.
You and your family are not providing clear, firm leadership if he thinks he can growl, bite and basically tell you what to do. Everyone should be doing some obedience training with him for at least 15 minutes every day - HEEL, SIT, STAY, DOWN, COME. Jack Russell Terriers are bundles of non-stop energy. Make sure he's getting plenty of strenuous exercise every day, at least a thirty minute run twice a day.
If he's in bed or on the couch with you, you're giving him the impression that he is your equal - you need to be the boss. Get his butt on the floor and keep it there. Don't do anything for him before he does something for you. If he wants to go out or get a treat, he has to sit and stay first. If he nudges you and demands to be petted, make him lie down before you do it. Don't let him jump up on you - use the leash to correct him and only pet him when all four feet are on the floor. Absolutely no playing tug-of-war; it teaches him to challenge your authority and growl at you.
Keep him on a leash at all times and tie it to your belt so you know where he is. This way you can correct him as soon as he even THINKS about doing something wrong. Make him sit and stay BEFORE you go to pick up his toys or his food or the cats. (If he's bad about this, on pperson can hold the leash and correct him, while another picks them up!)
Keep him in a crate at night or whenever you can't supervise him - not to punish him, but the same way you'd use a playpen for a baby.

Parson Russell Terriers are great little dogs. However, there has been such a sudden demand for them, that they are way over-bred by the unscrupulous breeder and backyard breeders, who just turn out pups as fast as they can to meet the public demands, without regard to form or function.
If you can find one that was bred carefully to breed standards of temperament and form, then you will have a wonderful dog.
I went the to the UK standard for these dogs, to learn about the original dog, as it is supposed to be..It had this to say:>
The Parson is an intelligent little dog but can be a bit stubborn like most terriers. Training is relatively easy but owners must be consistent and firm. They do have a tendency to turn a deaf ear when on the scent of something and so must be trained to return to you on command. They can be quite dominant over other dogs, particularly other terriers, so should be properly socialised and trained as puppies.

YES! They are and they require lots of attention and out door activities. My housemate has a jack russell and when she's not home he'll sometimes bark or try to bite me and my other housemate.

They tend to have very strong personalities, and I've met a fair few that could qualify as "nutters". Lovable ones generally, although if they don't know you get owner to introduce you (slowly) first. Preferably with cricket gloves on.
They are, however, incredibly loyal and affectionate to their owner and immediate family. Training and habituation can go quite a way in settling them down but they'll never, ever, EVER be "calm and quiet" little doggies...
