I used to work at Arby's and if we dropped buns on the floor, the managers would tell us to pick them up, wipe them on our pants and use them. No lie!

I worked at mcdonald's for 3 years while in high school.
NO there is no 5 second rule. Think about that. If that was the case every McDonald's would end up being shut down for health violations.
Is is possible someone who worked there did drop the food and picked it up? Yep. Just like it's possible employees use the bathroom and don't wash their hands. That's the risk you take at ANY restaurant. That employee would eventually get caught anyway.
And if your friend saw someone drop the food, all she had to do was tell a manager and she'd get a new one made. I mean what kind of person would just throw their food away and walk out? Makes no sense.

You should not eat at McDonalds anyway. It is very unhealthy for you. Take it from me, I just had gallbladder removal surgery and I ate there at least once or twice a week. Try Arby's Roast Beef or Subway. Much healthier. Now the human factor that is another story. You take a risk anytime you eat at a restaraunt or fast food joint. Stay away from the soda at these places not only do you hear about people spitting or putting other disgusting liquid into your drinks, The ice machines are the real bacteria breeding ground. If it is not in a bottle or can pass it up!!

I work part time at one and I won't use it and if I see it done I won't let the food be handed out. I won't even use a bag that falls on the floor unopened. Personally after working at a McDonald's I don't know how anyone can eat fast food anywhere the stuff is so gross and really bad for you and no the person serving the food is not always someone I'd want touching my food.

Right ... so ... um ... all your friend had to do is say, "Excuse me, I believe this was dropped on the floor. May I have another one?" and they would have given her a brand new one.
No food that is dropped on the floor is supposed to be served and I guarantee McDonalds has a written policy that all such food must be discarded. I'm sure sometimes workers might use dropped food but I doubt they do it as a habit.
This was really an easy problem to solve. I'm not sure why you and your friend went the way you did with it.

Uh, no....there is no 5-second rule, or even a 1-second rule, for that matter. Due to health and sanitary codes and regulations, that food must be disposed of and a new one made to order. If they make your burger wrong, they can't fix it and give it back to you, or use in another order. It gets trashed and they start over. Your friend is full of it!

It is hard to believe that someone would drop food in front of a costumer an try to serve it to them, and if they did, why did your friend accept it without saying something. It sounds like a tall tale to me.

I guess it depends from one branch to another because Mc Donalds is largely a franchise business so it sorta lose its control over all its stores. So it really depends on the management of that franchise outlet.

It all depends on the type of people working at a particular restaurant, not the place itself.

Similar things even happen in fancy restaurants. This is why I rarely eat out. ;)
