Yes. what we usually call "sagebrush" is a kind of artemisia, not sage. Artemisia tridentada is indigenous to the Great Basin, and is the common sage brush growing near Los Angeles. There are also A. arbuscula, californica, cana, nova, spinescsns, suksdorfii, ......They are all low, silvery-gray shrubs living on relatively dry land in western North America
