Why don't you get an issue of his birthdate newspaperand one of your wedding day? And as he is now 50, why not get him 50 small presents, all individually wrapped, all holding special memories for him?
For instance a pebble picked on one of your favourite walks, a menu from a restaurant where you had a lovely meal, something to do with his hobbies, photographs of places he loves, also and because you've only been together for 3 years ... Why not hunt until you find friends he may have lost touch with a long time ago? Get as many as you can and throw a surprise party?

If you live in the UK you can buy one of those red ticket day presents. They everything - from driving a ferrari to be sent of in a jet.
www.iwantoneofthose.com is a great place as well to look for guy stuff. Again it all depends on what he likes.
I think the idea of getting him a few different presents rather then one would be better. Maybe each different gift can represent a different era in your lives together.

Hi - my Dad was 50 in January and my Mum, myself and my bro all chipped in to buy him a Ferrari driving experience at Silverstone, cost about £250. Red Letter Days (google for their website) do great days out - balloon rides, driving experiences, potholing, all sorts! Have fun choosing. Bxx

First stop calling him hubby he probably hates it but is too caring to tell you.Secondly what is his favourite sport/hobby? Book a box at a football game/grand pr ix,etc and go to it in a chauffeur driven car, followed by dinner and a show then home to bed!

We just had a huge surprise b-day party for my father (75). We hired a hall, a D.J and enlisted friends to bring sides while we supplied the meat and drink. It was a blast and he was totally surprised and even cried.

i know it sounds cliche but you could throw a surprise party. Go on his friends reunited and find people he knew a long time ago!
Also you could look on ebay for a football shirt signed by his team or tickets for a concert he would like!

Take him to the best restaurant in town but don't order dessert.
You, in a hot new bedroom outfit, are the dessert.

dependant how long you've been married, you could propose again, renew your wedding vows (altho that's more special on a wedding annerversary, but it'd still be sweet)
take him somewhere nice....e.g the maldives and renew the vows
