Is not a cross or crucifix just a physical representation of a moment in time and human history ...... when a group of right-winged religious conservatives and a group of political and military conquerors murdered one of humanity's sacred prophets?
To say this is idol worship makes about as much sense as saying that someone wearing a shirt that says "I been to Disneyland" is Idol worshiping..... get real..... .

Wearing a cross is not idol worship, any more than having a picture of a loved one on your desk at work means that you are worshipping your loved one.
If one were to bow down to the necklace with the cross and say prayers to it, then yes, that would be idol worship.
But nobody who believes in Christ, whether Catholic or Protestant or Orthdox or whatever, does that.

I do take the Bible literally. However, I don't worship a cross, in fact I won't wear one at all. The cross is a reminder that Jesus died. Since He is alive there is not need for it. If they had stoned Him to death, would you wear & worship a rock?

The bible is a compilation of letters and testaments written by men, selected for inclusion into the bible by men, some 300 years after the time of Christ. It can't be taken literally because it contains many contradictions. The message of the bible can be summed up in one phrase: "Love your brothers (and sisters) as you love yourself." In other words: treat others the way you would like to be treated.
As for the cross, it's pretty much a fashion statement.

No thanx. I've yet to find a writer that could keep a story he was told straight anyway... I'm not going to place faith like that in a book written by men. Isn't placing that much faith in the bible the same as placing it equal to God?
You can keep the crosses too... always thought that was freaky to wear a symbol of the thing that caused someone a terrible death. Gross.

I do not worship the cross, I worship the One who died on the Cross for my sake. Now I do wear a cross to remind me and no one else of the price paid for my salvation. That helps me to keep my life on the straight and narrow path. I read my Bible but much of it is in parable form. Telling some simple stories to get the point across. We Christians aren't supposed to be like the Pharisees and get caught up on the letter of the law. Love is the main focus of Christ. The first commandment and the second basically paraphrase what we Christians are supposed to believe. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Simply put the law is love.

No, one is the book attributed to God's Word and the other is symbolic of the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Idol worship is about placing something (or someone) higher than God.

No, because no one is worshipping them. The Calvinists thought the same thing. It started many wars. I never heard anyone ask the cross or the Bible to save them or help them.

I certainly consider taking the Bible literally, or attributing any divinity to it at all (such as calling it the word of god) to be idolatry.
Some people wear crosses as jewelry just because they like them. So that isn't necessarily idolatry. It depends on whether you are wearing as a talisman or not.

No, It's not idol worship. The cross is a symbol of Jesus's sacrifice and who he is to the Christian Faith. We worship God and Jesus not the cross.
