Just curious as to how some of you feel about what the Bible has to say about "markings of the body." This includes tattooing, piercing of the flesh, etc.
*FYI: I am Christian. I do have a tattoo, earrings, and a navel ring.

I do believe our bodies are temples of the Lord, and I'm not doubting the Word of God one bit. I made the choice to get my navel ring when I was 19 and a tattoo when I was 22. I am 23 now. I can't say that I regret doing these things, but I have asked the God for forgiveness. I don't put anyone down for doing such things.

This was part of the old law of Moses. It just has a wrong connotation, and interferes with the spread of the Gospel (except perhaps to other tattooed or pierced people).
Earrings have a beautiful meaning. They were used to denote a slave who had been freed and decided to stick around because he loved his master. Isn't that a picture of our relationship to Christ?
Tattoos we are stuck with. We can cover them up if the weather is not too hot, or have a tattoo artist black out the offensive ones.
Navel rings are likely to get infected and should be removed, in my opinion. Besides, if you show them, you show too much skin, and offend modesty.
I believe that God made His temples--our bodies, and doesn't need our help to decorate them. Our walk with Him should be our only lifetime committment.

I have never heard of anything in the Bible about not doing it. actually the Bible talks about ear piercings. I have a piercing and 3 tattoo's and more drawn up that I plan on getting. I know pastors that have tattoos so I would say no that it's not against the Bible.

Decorate your home while you live in it. Tattoos piercings are all self expression. Looks and feels good to me. Really it matters what it going on in the inside way more than what you look like on the outside.

I don't think it applies. I have five tattoos and am all about Jesus. Is God going to prohibit me from Him because I got ink??? No. That does not matter. What is on the inside is all the counts. If you have given yourself over to God and believe His Son died for you on Calvary...Then tatts or piercings don't matter.

God is against it. We are not to make ourselves look like harlots.
Revelation 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

It's probably a reaction against common "pagan" practices of the time.
