Your pastor is a psycho. A tithe is 10%.

You know churches seem to be hung up on Tithe,
It is suppose to come from the Heart and your good will.
To pay the Pastor some money so he can eat and pay rent and the rest should go to the church fund for charity and the needs of church members (that have hit hard times)

And if the Pastor makes more the average of the members of his congregation..He is stealing from God

Tithing is Old Testament. And no tithe was greater than 60% total. I'd get far away from that pastor. Christians are supposed to give OFFERINGS. How much is up to you. But you must give with a joyful heart. Otherwise, the money is wasted. This is the one area where God says 'Test me!'. It'd be silly not to!

Scripture says that we should offer 10% as a tithe to the church. However, if we WERE asked to give 99%, would you not? After all, Christ did give his ALL for us, didn't he? Where would we be if He had held out on us b/c He thought God was asking too much of him?

Have your pastor give you a verse that shows that. In general, giving should be sacrifical and joyful, so don't give so much that you are unable to take care of yourself and your family, but enough that your giving is sacrificial.

10% is the general rule, but that was a requirement for the Old Testiment based on the laws set forth specifically to the Jews. The new covenant that Christ established changed the old laws as he became an atoning sacrifice for all who follow him.

The Bible is very clear that a tithe is at least 10% of your income. Not only is it 10%, but it is the first 10% of your income. That means that you should give that 10% before tax is deducted and before you pay any of your bills.

If a pastor said that there is a problem, unless you are residential. If the church is providing your housing and food and transportation and clothing (if you are living there) then it's reasonable to give them all your income. No ethical pastor would tell you that because you wouldn't be able to live.

I don't know what church you go to or even IF you are serious, but I don't believe the amount is as important as the heart when it comes to giving. Do you honestly think God expects you to give all of the income He has blessed you with and then starve? I don't think that is what my God wants. It is the love put into something not the actual act that counts to God.

I don't know what your problem is or why you'd drag a pastor into it if he's teaching you right, but GROW UP and OBEY THE WORD that says that your tithe is the tenth of your increase or take your sarcasm elsewhere.

Find a new church.

You can't buy your way out of Hell (and into Heaven for that matter). The only way in is through Jesus.

Here's a good verse for you: Romans 11:33-36 Read it!

Here's part of what Paul says in that passage: "...who has given a gift to him (God) that he might be repaid?"
