After the downfall of muslim empires of past, muslim nations have been left behind. Currently few (2 or 3) have genuine democracies where as others have corrupt ruling elite whose strings are pulled from the west. The public voice is suppressed and the culture is dictated from so-called leader. Which ever muslim country tries to establish democracy is faced by severe resistance however dictators are facilitated by external forces who rule till their death. As a result public sector is weak consequently deprived health, education and security facilities are provided
Around the globe Muslim countries are being invaded and non-muslim countries are being liberated, Take example of eastern Timur and compare with Palestine, Kashmir, Chechnya etc, etc. No one cares about the death of dozens of Palestinian children daily (even muslim dictators), but raises voice against kidnap of one Israeli soldier
Muslims themselves lack discipline and no one can blame religion for this because most of us (95% in non-arab countries) have never read the whole Koran (with meaning) which teaches discipline and provides guidance .

a_red_wine_guy: JIHAD is defending your self and weak people. Can any one explain why should it be prohibited.
If koran asks us to rise and protect weak and to defend against attacks, i dont think its evil, every country trains their army the same thing are they evil too. Protecting common people from robery and theft also comes under jihad, is it evil too.

You say 95% of you haven't completely read the Koran, well that is no different than anyone Christian either. Most people don't fully understand the religion they belong to, but they are quick to defend it and to judge other religions.
As long as Muslims run their countries with religious beliefs, they cannot get out of the pattern they are in. A democracy can only work when you seperate church and state. If you are run by a religious leader, there will always be someone's rights being violated.

Well, I think that parts of Islam are inherently evil, and unless the clerics "correct" these sections and not ratify them by saying Jihad in any form is justified, I and many others of the world will continue to believe that Islam is at least partially an evil religion. I'm not saying Muslims are evil, but even Christians have cast away some of the cruder sections of their bible and provided new interpertations of the darker parts. Your religion needs to join the rest of the world in the 21st century and get out of the 9th. If you do this, Islam can be a peaceful and loving religion such as modern day catholicism, and then and only then will the rest of the world open their arms and hearts to you.

Is there a question somewhere in this? Don't be hating. Start by asking yourself a couple of questions like these: am I a bigot? Do I think that religion should be a political tool? Or that belief in God needs to be enforced by a government? Is it a good idea to make general statements about personal matters? Ponder those for a while, then come back and ask a question.

I don't think there is democracy in any Muslim country, and colonization by the west is still ruling Muslim countries by those dictators who are enemies of their own people and servants for the west governments, Israel, and the US, and any one who follows the news recognizes this easily. Muslims today live under huge oppression and pressure from inside and from out side and may God help them.

High rates of illiteracy, under-development, violent dictators, and violent indoctrination throughout the Arab and Muslim world.
They are a "shame" culture. These facts "shame" them.
They deal with their shame by lashing out at the West, Jews, whomever their leaders instruct them to blame their troubles on.

First of all the places that you named - historically were non-Muslim to begin with, they had been invaded by Muslims in past. The reason is imperialistic mind-set of those some Muslims you quoted, I fail to understand why they can't live peacefully in a secular democracy?
The answer lies in Koran / Hadith itself - that declares dar-ul-Islam and dar-ul-Harb as two zones of the world. Harb is war, I guess that explains.

Who says that no-one cares about the innocent little children being slaughtered daily? I for one would like to stand up and say "I CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN WHERE EVER THEY MAY BE".
There I did it! I am sure that I am not alone in this sentiment.
