I have observed in YA that most of the atheists are in fact, anti-christianity. They do not believe in the "Saving", Sin, Heaven and Hell...and specially a God ruling the world, with stern moral values, punishing in hell or rewarding heaven or virgins.

Now if you see a religion which

Does not believe in God
Does not have concept of sin, heaven and hell
Does not have fairy tale stories in their religion
Has a logical explanation of Life, Death, Pains and Universe

Will you by default, oppose that religion too (just to fulfil your duty of being atheist)?

Or you may change your perspective about religion?

(Belieive me there is such a religion on earth)

I actually approve of Buddhism...if that's what you are talking about. Atheists in general are not anti-theists or anti-religion...there are just a lot of us who don't care for fundamentalist and those who try to force their beliefs on others.

I'm not atheist, but I don't believe in God. I'm more Agnostic, because there is a possibility I suppose, but I'm not stupid. I understand morals, I respect other people's religions, and I don't treat Christianity any different from any other religion. I just need a little more proof than a book that has been interpreted so many times that it could be wrong.

In the story of Noah and the Arc, the word "Earth" has been proven to be mis-interpreted. Earth was also the same word as "ground" and "land" therefore God did not flood the entire Earth. I think that maybe if the religions got their sh*t straight that I'd be a little more believing. Besides, the more sceientific ways they prove God wrong the better off we are anyway. The bible claims there were no dinosaurs but what have we found?
It also says that daughters should remain slaves to their fathers but what the hell, we overlook that one too don't we?
That book is thousands of years old, I think it's about time God-believing religions revise their base.

I have nothing against it, I'm just not for it either.

Frankly, following your criteria, what you have described is not really a "religion."

You may be describing Buddhism, and I have to admit that I find very little fault with most Buddhist teachings.

As an atheist I simply do not believe in a god or gods. I am only opposed to religion when I see it being used as license to do terrible things. Sadly, this is fairly standard behavior for most faiths.

Encountering something you described, I would not immediately be opposed to it, but then again, you seem to be describing more of a worldview than a religion.

Being an Atheist puts you in a position where you can look at all religions with a more objective, less dogmatic attitude. It's not about fulfilling a duty, we leave that to those who follow organised religions, whilst we are free to persue other persuits, such as getting on with our lives without the need of a crutch.

I am an atheist , this means quite simply that I do not believe in God!
I could still believe that Harvey the giant white rabbit is real and talks to me every night, I still would not believe in God! I could in fact worship Harvey and that would be a religion of sorts! I would still be atheist not believing in God!
Religion is usually derided by atheists because it is normally associated with religious God loving bible thumpers trying to preach to the unconverted in the hope of converting them into 'nutters'
Religion its self basically means "A belief in and worship of a superhuman being , or a superhuman controlling power"!
You make a point of mentioning Christianity, and the atheist particular distaste of that religion, so as you want to make a specific point based on that particular religion then here is one to ponder on:-
As an atheist I don't believe in God whether you believe or not is up to you ! But Christianity is the only religion which says Jesus was and is God Christianity is the only religion which says Jesus who is God is also his own Son, I won't go into the Holy ghost bit, I can feel people nodding off reading this!
So , as an atheist I do not believe in God!! (How could I possibly believe in Christianity, it is utter rubbish, no other religion is as unbelievable)??
As an atheist I do believe that religion is a fact it exists, even if its only the religious worship of a cow! I and every one else knows religion is among us, worship God or a cow or whatever you want! Even worship my mate Harvey if you want to.
As I dont believe in God it follows that I think any religion that worships any God is complete and utter rubbish!
AMEN!! HERE ENDETH THE LESSON!

"just to fulfil your duty as an atheist" is a bit of a stupid statement.
atheists prefer to make up their own minds about life instead of believing we are going to be judged and given a set of rules by someone we don't have any proof exists! I like to take life as it comes and believe what i see.
So surely this religion you mention, while it may disagree with the things christianity believes in, surely cannot be what an atheist believes as that would be a oxymoron! Atheists abstain from religion. No matter what it says.

I am ok with other religions i dont really care what other people think and as for me being antichrist thats still based along the christian religion which im not part of or dont really believe so it doesnt affect me at all. i think jesus and god is nothing more than a symbol of hope people use to unite with each other for a common cause. also to try to help understand the un understanable. and yes there is such thing as religion if you believe there is.

what rubbish, why do you insist on branding types of people, how would you react if i were to say all religious people were bigots, which i haven't, but have met many religious bigots, as i have anti-religious, why is it you can see the worst in non religious people, but people you feel safe with ie christians are whiter than white, you ask a question but only show how unchristian you really are, and at the same time insult a huge amount of people, i for one am not interested in your preachings but nevertheless am accepting of your beliefs, as a christian i would expect the same from you, i am a decent human being, am a faith-full wife, a loving mother, i have never wanted to sleep with my friends husband, i have never killed anyone, nor have i stolen, i always respected my mother and father, and i have never been a witness in court so i have never bared a false witness, may i say that this is not because of an underlying fear, but because i am a decent human being and this type of behaviour comes naturally to me, that doesn't mean i judge people for their beliefs, as it appears you are doing, feeling superior is such an ugly trait , don't you think?

no i am not hateful, what i dont understand is why someone who claims to be religious, could judge people so much i am angry, yes, but that is all because you should practice what you preach, i dont preach but am a good person, why do religious people like you hound us that just want to live a good life without god, why do you think there is somthing wrong with us and you have to make us better, i do not think because your ideas are different to mine that you need my help i accept it

oh yes i do understand the question, my comments were based on your biased attitude and incorrect observations, just for the record as i tried to explain earlier, i do not have a problem with anyone wishing to follow religion, i myself am an individual, i do not follow others but make my own choices through life, and i do not call myself any name i do not belong to an organisation i am just ann, i dont despise religious people just religion, it is a form of gang, a way to bully others, a way to pressurise and terrorise, and just because people dont refer to wrong doings as sin most people know the difference between right and wrong you dont need god to tell you that

I think some people refer to themselves as Athiest simply as you say they dont believe in the Saving, Sin etc. But a true athiest doesnt believe in anything. Yet what about gravity, what about inertia, force, what about science, what about when they sit on a chair, how do they know that it isnt going to collapse. It is Faith, so they have faith...makes you think.

Good question, i wonder if they would just for the sake of it oppose it. I think it may be Athiests are against anything that imposes a certain set of rules on them. Any religion has its own rules.

i beleive the religion you are thinking of is satanism or if you are scared of such labels then you can i guess call it LeVeyanism after its modern day founder, as for atheism, the point of being an atheist is that you don't have any religious duty weather it is for religion or against, most atheists have never even considered the existance of any sort of god and thus they have no personal relationship to any such ideas, atheism is not a religion, or an anti religion.

I'll take each one on it's own merit

Then I'll compare it against my own beliefs

If it's compatible, I might say I believe it. But just because it doesn't fail (in my eyes) in some of the ways you rightly guess that Christianity fails, that doesn't mean I'd automatically BELIEVE in your religion. You'd still have to convince me of its own merits, not just say "it's not as bad as Christianity"

And no, although I'm an atheist, I don't equate that with "anti-Christian". It's just that most of the aggressively pro-religion comments on YA are posted by Christians, and a lot of the things they say are easy to dismiss. So you do get a lot of anti-Christian comments from atheists on YA, but if Hindus for example were as numerous and forceful with their opinions, you'd see a lot of anti-Hindu messages from atheists too, I think.
