You're not likely to get hired as a prison guard with a BCD. And as for mrsthing's answer-- YES you are required to tell employers that you've been in the military. It's not an option. Any one that does even a half-assed background check will find out about it anyway, and then you'll look like even more of a dirtbag since you didn't say you served. They'll wonder what it is you are trying to hide and will be very suspicious about it.

They will do a thorough background check and I do believe certain types of discharges will prohibit some being hired. And it is correctional officer, not guard, no its not a play on words, we do more than guard something. When I hired on they even wanted to know family members who had been incarcerated. You've got to have the right attitude to do this line of work, its not easy with all the negativity. I know I worked corrections for many years.

Highly unlikely. Any job in the law enforcement/corrections arena is gonna require a discharge probably no less than general but under honorable conditions.

You can always try. Considering that not many people wish to work in the prison guard industry, they agencies that oversee the hiring of prison guards may overlook that little blemish on your resume.

state prison systems are required to ask whether or not you were in the military, weather or not they do a complete background check is entirely up to them. but let me ask you this how in the world did you get a bad conduct discharge?. i would really like to know. you can e-mail me your answer at my yahoo address.......but if its because you refused to serve over in the Stan or Iraq please don't bother because you really don't want to here what i have to say.

Do you have to tell them that you were in the military? Are they doing a background check? If yes then you might not be able too. If not then just don't tell them you were in the service. That is only a need to know thing.

I doubt it. You might as well apply at McDonalds but even they might not have you.
