I know what to do.

Homemade Treats: cooked spagetti and macaroni, scrambaled eggs with ground up shells in them, cooked potatoes with chives inside of them. cooked chicken, cooked yams, boiled vegetables, cooked sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, bannanas, apples, blueberrie, celery, rspberry, strawberry.

Basically anything in the produce section, NEVER EVER FEED chocolate, avacado, processed meat, cheese, garlic, or onions.

In the house for the winter:

1. Frequently vacuum the area your parakeets cage is located, put a seed skirt on the side of the cage, to keep some of the loose seeds in.

2. Or put your parakeets in a separate room in the house where there will be low traffic and your family wont complain as much about the mes or apply #1 to here as well.

3. If you live in FL you can leave them outside all year but bring them in the house if it drops below 65 degrees

I hope this helps

I don't have a pet parraket but live in one of the parts of London where there are wild colonies. Round here they seem to like eating sloes. Sloes are very common on places like golf courses, it's best to pick them in the autumn. They can be fozen if you want to keep a stash through the winter. They're also very nice mixed with gin and sugar but that's propably not a good idea for the birds...

if im hearing you correctly, home made treats are not healthy for parakeets. my 7 year old female ALBI gets only ground up portions of ritz crackers and plain chips. and thats for her salt intake. she does love oranges, plums, watermelon, peaches & green grapes lol . if you want to avoid a mess at home. you need to keep the wings clipped [ i do my own clipping ],that way no droppings get all over the place. keep the food and treat cups at the bottom part of the cage. this keeps spills on the floor to a minimun. one thing i do for albi is buy white 1/8 inch string and tie knots on it. i tie it onto a perch where she chews on it. this gives her something to do & when she's done molting, she gets agressive. chewing on the string keeps them from biting you ! .. but once that string looks like a pom-pom. put a new one in the cage because her nails might get caught in it. .... bruce

They like hard boiled eggs..you can actually buy an "egg cup" that hooks onto the cage it's made for a hard boiled egg to fit right in it ..any pet store should sell them. In the winter there is no other option than keeping your bird indoors.
