Although the person may not mean to stir up issues, a lot of answers get offensive and judgmental (from all sides of this issue). Are you willing to promise to respect the person who asks a question without creating hostile feelings?

Can we all get along?

For my fellow Christians, think about Christ's example. He only was hard on the Pharisees and the disciples (because they should know better) but was kind and gentle to those who honestly sought answers to questions. He also was respectful to them (the woman at the well, the people he healed, the centurion, etc).

Can we all try to get along and to promise from now on to answer in a way that is respectful to the other person. No one says you have to agree with them, but can we disagree in a way that still respects them as an individual. Or at least in a way that won't get them angry.

Thank you searcher for your comments. You are not alone in the worries you express. You have wonderful insight and compassion. Unfortunately the ones who need this message may not receive it due to either ignorance or the inability to see that you are asking them. It makes me sad that we can't follow a simple command; love your brother/neighbor as you love yourself. But then none of us are perfect and many don't understand at all what they are doing. We have to just love them and go on, wish them well and let the Lord do His job. I feel you friend and wish the same sentiments. Thank you for sharing your feelings. I for one will try to do as you have requested in my daily life, not just here in this forum. Nana

Not everyone deserves respect. We have this PC attitude that, as long as it's someone's religion, it is acceptable. But I think that's crap. Of all the things you are allowed to have a completely irrational concept of, it's your cosmology and morality? No way! We will be much better off when we stop biting our tounges when someone says "the world is supported on the backs of turtles. Turtles all the way down." We need to start looking at Creationism for what it is...an embarassing lack of education and scientific understanding. I think it would be perfectly acceptable to ask if someone is a Creationist on certain job applications, and turn them down because of it.

I don't know if we can all "get along," but I do do my best to be kind and fair to everyone. If someone is spouting hate and doing nothing but being insulting, I do one of two things: If there is a real question, I will gently answer it. If it is nothing but a spout of nastiness, I ignore it. (And report it, since this community has rules against this kind of thing.)

No way. There are just as many offensive questions as there are offensive answers. People who ask such questions deserve what they get.
