I agree with God being a Spirit and not being male or female but if I have to answer the question as to male or female I say that I don't think God could be a woman. He created man first and he reflects God's image. He created woman after man for the helpmate and changed some body features you know what I mean.

No. Look at every time God is referenced in Scripture. Even the verse you quoted said that HE, not SHE created man in HIS own image. Male and female are similar, but God is a man. I've never seen an instance in the Word where HE was referred to as SHE, HER or any other feminine pronoun for that matter.

It says he created man in his own image and then made Adam. He only made Eve so Adam could have a companion and multiply the Earth.
Why do so many people read so much into the scripture and in turn make up some wild story?
No- God is a man. He is not some kind of transgendered person.

If there was not a Feminine Counterpart of God, women would not exist. If God is to be HE, men would have the women's reproductive system. God is two sides of a coin, both male and female, but I believe that they are two separate entities working as one. In Judeo mythology ( and some Pagan practices) Shekinah is the Female part of God. Now in the first part wouldn't that make more sense? Because if there were no feminine part of creation, all men would be essentially gay. Also in the first chapter of Genesis, It says" Let us create man in our image"...hmmm who else is up there...Angels are suppose to be androgynous...and since nothing else was created, there has to be the feminine energy of God. FEMALE.

It is very hard for a woman to be a Father!
In all seriousness, God is considered to be male, but not a male in the earthly sense. God has no sexuality. In reality, he is neither man nor woman, or BOTH, if you want to see it that way. Sexuality exists for the purpose of reproduction. God has no physical body and does not need this in order to reproduce. He can just 'create', as he did with this earth and all on it.
The idea of God as a woman is a feminist fad of our times. People think it is 'cute' to put Him in that context. I personally think it is pretty lame and very disrepectful. I also see the need to assign a 'sex' to him to be petty and manipulative. People use the 'sex' of God to show favoritism of one sex over the other. This must sadden our Creator.
I hope this clears some things up for you.

God created man first (Adam) in his own image and then took a piece of Adam to create woman (Eve). The man is God's image...Jesus. For Christians, Jesus is the human form of God. We go though Him for everything. that is why he's a man. Man is dominant. besides it would be extremely weird if God were a woman. But since there was Jesus, who is the messiah, that is who we see when we see God( in a form we can understand).

According to Genesis, God first created Adam in His own image. And then He created Eve out of Adam's rib.
This makes Eve an inexact copy of Adam, modified to provide companionship for Adam. And Adams is the orginal creation in the image of God.

According to that scripture, men and women were created in the image of God. That would make God man and woman by your logic.

I have to agree with some others out there. God is spirit. I think God's spirit is made up of many things including both female and male attributes.

Only material creatures have gender. Non corporeal beings don't.
An excerpt from http://www.jewfaq.org/g-d.htm:
Although we usually speak of G-d in masculine terms, there are times when we refer to G-d using feminine terms. The Shechinah, the manifestation of G-d's presence that fills the universe, is conceived of in feminine terms, and the word Shechinah is a feminine word. >
