It is easy to get sucked into smoking. The main reason is that it is a stress reliever.

The problems with smoking are: one, some people think that they look cool because they smoke. And the problem that gets me is that when you start you get an incredible buzz...then you want the "buzz" when you get stressed or having fun or whatever...then the "buzz goes away and then you smoke because you literally need to. You should tell this boy what you think of smoking...his smoking in general. Remember everyone hates the person who coughs on purpose...

Not all smokers smokes because they think it's cool, only teenagers tend to think so. I started when I was 14, not because I thought it was cool. I started because, my whole family smoked and I guess, I was just around it all the time. I'm 26 now and I'm still highly addicted to it. I wish I can stop (notice; "STOP", not "QUIT). But stopping is a lot harder than what it seems. I smoke because, it relieves stress and I'm addicted to it, no other reasons.
P.S. After only 2 years of smoking, I really think it's a lot easier to quit than those who have been smoking for a longer period of time.

Media and dopamine these are the two main reasons for smoking addiction.
He has to want to quit.
So you need to help him realize what your feelings are for him and then help him see he is worth it to stop. Come up with a plan before you talk to him. Such as helping him get free patches from your local hospital/cancer dept. then present it to him.
If he says no way then walk away it might be the hardest thing you do in your life but you have to look out for yourself first!
because if your life is cut short down the road by his smoking then that will not be fair for you or your family(your teen/children ).
By you taking a firm stand he might see that it is important enough to quit.
If he is not welling to stop killing you by second hand smoke then he is not into you

Most people I know smoke because it's a stress reliever. The only thing you can really do is talk to this guy about it and if he wants to try to quit, support him the whole time. It's really rough to try to quit, though. I've had a friend that's tried to quit several times. So....talk to him and give him w/e support he needs. Just don't nag him about it or the habit will increase because he will become more stressed.

Sweetie, I wish I could tell you. I'm 24 and I've been smoking since I was 17. I started because I thought it was cool and I wanted to impress a guy I liked. Now, I'm trying to quit and I can't seem to. Unfotunantly unless your freind wants to quit, there is nothing you can do but ask him to! Good Luck!!

Some people smoke because it calms them, some do it socially, to look cool, some do it because they weren't ever taught the down sides.

i think one bad thing at that age is he may be smoking to rebel. i know at that age i did whatever i was allowed to do. they were bad choices and i have grown up since then but for that age all you can really do is talk to him. maybe he'll listen, you'll never know if you don't try!
