I am owned by 2 English bulldogs and live in Central Texas where it getsm extremely hot and humid. They cannot stand this kind of weather for great lengths of time. Due to their shortened trachea, they aren't able to cool themselves off as much by panting as other breeds. Pugs and other short-nosed dogs suffer the same kinds of consideration as well. Bulldogs are much better indoor "lap" pets (they think they belong there) than outdoor dogs.
If you're looking for a dog that can tolerate the heat and be active outdoors, bulldogs are not the way to go. No amount of water or ice can keep them cool enough for them to withstand long hours in hot weather-even in shade. They can seem happy and healthy one minute in the heat, and then keel over dead. I've seen this happen too many times. Please consider another breed if you are looking for a constant outdoor companion.

Olde english bulldogges are a breed recognized by the UKC and have been breeding true for over 30 years, there are way healthier than any english bulldog I have ever seen and way more athletic and have far less vet bills. the olde english bulldogge is a great loyal family pet, people that dont look at them as a breed are just stubbon, if I were you I would get whatever makes you happy , but a OEB is a very good dog

Yes I know that English Bulldogs do not do well in the heat at all. They can stay outside for short amounts of time...to do their business in other words. Unless they are in a well shaded area. Since their nose is flat it is hard for the to get deep breaths like other breeds of dogs. And plus if you went to mud races with the dog you would have to come home and clean every fold on his face to get the mud out or it could cause him to get an infection.

My brother has an English Bulldog and he does fine. We live in Cincinnati where it gets very humid. He just cannot stay outside in the heat all day like most dogs would be able too. Bulldogs have a harder time breathing so you have to make sure they stay cool and have plenty of water. They have a higher chance of heat stroke than most dogs, you just need to make sure they are always cool.

I live in North Central Texas. It is much hotter here than North Carolina (I have travelled there a couple of times in the summer). People here have English Bulldogs.

They can handle it yes, they just foam a lot from the mouth in the heat. And they slobber a lot. But thats just like most dogs, just them more than others. I love Boston Terriers i really want one.
