Strep throat is an infection caused by bacteria. It is called "strep" because the bacteria that causes the infection is called streptococcus.
Adults with strep throat may have a sore throat, a fever and swollen neck glands. They usually don’t have a cough or a runny nose.
Children with strep throat have a sore throat and may have tummy pain or a red rash with small spots. The rash is worse under the arms and in skin creases.
----
How is strep throat treated?
Your doctor may give you or your child an antibiotic. Antibiotics kill bacteria, which helps strep throat go away a little faster. It can also prevent a few rare but serious conditions that people with strep throat might get. It is important to take all of the medicine your doctor gives you.
----
What can make your sore throat feel better?
Here are some things that might help you feel better:
* Taking ibuprofen (some brand names: Advil, Motrin) or acetaminophen (one brand name: Tylenol). Children should not take aspirin. Aspirin can cause Reyes syndrome --a serious illness-- and in some cases, death when it is used in children under 18 who have the flu.
* Gargling with warm salt water (1/4 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup [8 ounces] of warm water).
* For adults and older children, sucking on throat lozenges, hard candy or pieces of ice.
* Eating soft foods, drinking cool drinks or warm liquids or sucking on Popsicles.

If you have strep throat make sure to get a throat culture at your doctor's office. You probably have a high fever and an extremely painful throat. The only way to get rid of it is with antibiotics which they will prescribe. You usually have to take them for 10 days to make sure it goes away. If it is a recurring problem they may have to take your tonsils out.
I had strep 5 times in 6 months and they finally removed my tonsils.

Strep throat is caused by the streptococcus bacteria. The only treatment is antibiotics. If strep throat isn't treated as soon as possible, it can lead to rheumatic fever which can cause rheumatic heart disease. Strep throat is not something to mess around with.

first of all, HOW do you know you have strep? Have you been to a doctor? If you have and he/she said you have it, did you take the medicine he/she gave you as directed and did you take all of it?
Whether you did these things or not is regardless, because if you still have a sore throat and it's been two weeks....GO TO A DOCTOR!!!

If you know you have strep throat, then presumably you know because it was tested by a doctor. Otherwise you are just guessing that's what your sore throat is.
If you've been diagnosed by a doctor, he should have you on antibiotics. They usually last about 2 weeks.

Strep throat is like a sore throat. You need to take antibotics for it (if you aren't already). I had it once and it's not fun. There's always a chance that it will reoccur.

Stepp throat is extremely contagious and there is no actuall cure, but sleep, soup( egg drop soup from a chinese restaurant is the best in my opinion) and if you can get maybe some cough medicine in genral would really help and all of those put together and you should be cured in 2-5 days, depending on your condition.

It is a painful bacterial infection in your throat characterized by white **** on the inside/back and sides of the throat. You will become hoarse and the irritation is painful! It is contagious by breathing on another person, kissing, or sharing food or drinks.
Go to a doctor and get an antibiotic immediately!!!

Highly contagious. Some people are carriers but don't get sick. I had it multiple times in a row as a small child and it eroded my tonsils to the point I had to have them removed. Also, one particular strain can damage your kidneys. I have a scar on one kidney that causes protein in the urine, but no ill effects otherwise; I just can't get life insurance, which sucks.
