While there are certainly exceptions, atheists in general are not "full of hatred and contempt" for well-behaved Christians. Unfortunately. Christians on the internet and those who are the most in the public eye in the U.S. at least are anything but "well-behaved". If you look around this part of Yahoo Answers you'll find that the Christians here generally simply assume that they're right about things ranging from the existence of their god to their moral judgments to their feelings about atheists and atheism. Many of those moral judgments are simply wrong, and worse, the basic foundataional belief in the existence of a god is simply false. Christianity therefore starts off in a pretty deep hole, and very few Christians are able to reconcile their false belief in a god with the kind of basic honesty that brings respect.
That being said, I do know quite a few believers who I respect deeply, largely because they recognize that the core belief system of Christianity is not true in the same sense that true beliefs about the nature of the world are true. Christianity would do itself a world of good as far in garnering respect if it would concentrate on finding a way to talk about the core beliefs that distinguished between them and real, true beliefs.

This is the second time this question has been asked today, so I suggest you also search for that question and see how people answered.
Most atheists don't hate others just because they are religious or of the Christian faith...I wouldn't even use the word hate...as I view hate as pointless. Atheists may particularly speak against christianity because most atheists in the usa grew up around christianity and therefore are very familiar with it and because chrisitanity is an evangelical religion which tries to force itself into every aspect of daily life.
Not liking the religion has little to do with the followers as individuals....unless of coarse you are the type who tries force your beliefs on others...then I don't care for your approach that much, but respect your right to free speech.

I don't beleive it's hatred. That's a pretty strong word. I believe it's just frustration due to not being able to be seen for what they believe (or don't believe I guess). Honestly..do you see many Athiests out there shouting their religious beliefs to the world? Most *I* know tend to keep those beliefs to themselves, unless approached on the subject, and I believe that's why they get so frustrated with the religious right, is because they're professing Christianity as the "one and only true way to God" , and no one but "god" knows that. A lot of Athiests and Agnostics actually KNOW the Bible very WELL, and because of such, have developed their OWN philosophy, yet get attacked by Christians who (although not blatantly said) believe they know the Bible better and live better lives, because they're doing it the "right" way. Those Christians believe they have the right to tell Athiests that they are going to hell, which probably pisses off the Athiests because they don't believe in hell anyway.
The Bible DOES say to spread the good news, but I don't think it said to shove it down people's throats against their will. You believe what you believe, and they believe what they beleive. I think (and this is my own personal opinion) that instead of the Christians worrying about all the people who aren't saved, focus on your own group of religious followers and improve THEIR lives first. Then, when YOU become without flaw or fault, come talk to me and approach me with your self-righteous religious spoutings. I'm a believer of "judge not lest ye be judged" and that's why *I* get frustrated with Christians. I don't believe anyone has the right to judge me, and that we all create our own religion in our minds and conscience, becuase I believe that "god" doesn't control our lives, he just gives us the knowledge and the wisdom to make decisions in our lives, therefore, I believe spirituality comes from within, so having some Christian spout bible versus to me, isn't going to change my core concepts of my personality, my conscience or what criteria I use to make decisions.

As one of the "atheists here..", I can say quite honestly, that I am not full of hatred in any sense. Nor am I full of contempt for all people of faith. I believe, very strongly, in freedom from religious persecution.
I do however, have contempt for those members of religious groups who demand that others conform to their personal beliefs. Beyond that, I think that certain elements of Christian and Muslim churches are extremely dangerous people. They are a threat to democracy, and as such, their lies must be exposed. There are some of these type of people operating on this site. If they publish lies here, I hope that others, whether they are atheists or religious, do their best to expose their hateful lies for what they are.

Actually, about the only thing more common than people being hateful towards those they disagree with (on religion, politics, tv shows, etc.) would have to be people who are whining about why there's so much one-sided hatefulness going on -- ignoring all of it coming from the side they agree with. In fact, there are a precious few people on here who ask thoughtful questions and even disagree with one another over religious and political questions without exchanging a reasoned debate for personal nastiness. Maybe you haven't seen it yet, but keep looking. It's there.

I neither have contempt or hate for anyone. I am an Atheist and I believe we should all believe in what ever makes us happy. I have many christian friends and family members. Christians' are the ones telling me I am a bad person just because I don't think like them.

Pointing out lies ("Only christians are moral"), hypocrisy ("You can't criticize a christian who lied, you're an atheist!") and criminal acts (pedophile priests, Pat Robertson doing business deals with a war criminal, etc.) is not hate or contempt. It's telling the truth.
When the ranks of christians are not full of liars, hypocrites and thieves, when your numbers are what you claim to be, THEN you can call mine and others' words "hate". Until then, your denials are complicity in other christians' immoral behaviour.

I have been reading this section for some time. I seems to me that a lot of the so call "Christians" are full of hatred and contempt for almost any one who believes differently from 'them".
I know that real Christians are not that way though. I hope they see the era of their ways.

I feel like a fire fighter when I come to R&S. I'm trying to put out the raging flames of fantastic ignorance that Christians fuel by breeding. Sometimes I'm a little shocked by how brutal it sounds when I write how I really feel, but to tone it down wouldn't be fair to me or them. Christians do bad things and teach others to do so. The Bible is a bad guess at reality, compared to what we have to work with thanks to science. Atheists have better morals than God.

I am not an atheist. I was raised Catholic. However, it seems to me that the Christians, who do like to think they are high and mighty sometimes seem to run into a little competition with the atheists, who are also high and mighty. Its real simple people, keep your damn religion (or lack thereof) to yourselves. Its your business, your faith, and you shouldn't be pushing it onto anyone. Whether it be a Christian fundamentalist who thinks everyone who is not Christian should burn in hell, or an Atheist who thinks that everyone who is Christian should burn here on Earth. Its stupid. Let people be free to worhip or not whomever they damn well choose.
