For some people it works - long distance calls, trips with frequent flyer's miles, and e-mail. However, eventually it comes to a point where the couple has to decide where to put down their roots. And that's where the troubles begin since adults who are settled in their jobs and communities rarely want to give that up and expect the other half to sacrifice what they worked hard to achieve. For many that causes break ups...but some couples are more flexible and will travel where the other half is settled in. Its not always so though. The best thing is to find someone in your own zone and make that relationship work unless you or your partner are willing to decide upfront where you will settle down if and when it will come a serious relationship. Good luck and hope it works out for you!

How and when do you two plan to see each other? How long will this long distance relationship go on? Will the distance ever be closed by one of you moving near the other? These are things you need to ask yourself. I personally would say no but good luck in whatever you decide.

Definitely! I'm in a long-distance long-term relationship with my boyfriend and soulmate Tony whom I love with my all. He's in Altanta and I'm in Taipei, we're literally half way around the world from each other and we're 12 hours apart. It works. You just have to be prepared to deal with everything and never stop believing or communicating. As has been said: if it's meant to be, then it will.

It depends on how dedicated you are, how much history you have, how much resources you have (to visit and keep in contact), how much you love each other, how willing you are to work towards the day when you can be together, how old you are (not making any judgments about *your* age, but different-country-love-affairs tend to be between teenagers nowadays.....us older and wiser ones pick people a little closer....say, only halfway across the country, like myself).
So, I would say, depending on the above, sure it could work. Love conquers all, and all that jazz.

I know a few guys who have such relationships. It works if you have serious plans. DOn't give up, call your friend at least once in 5-6 days. Talk on any thing you think about. It will help foirget that huge distance.
Good luck.

You have to have trust and compromise. I'm in a long distance relationship and all I can do for now is write letters. My boyfriend is in San Diego for Marine Corps Bootcamp. You probably can pick up the phone and call. So, it work.

You can make it work as long as both of you want to. But you might eventually want to make plans to get closer together. I was in a long-distance relationship for 2 years. He said he was going to come live close to me, but he never could work it out, so we had to break it off. That and he was a compulsive liar...

It's not impossible, but have you ever met this person face to face?
I was in a ldr 2 years ago, for about 2 years. It worked out, but we weren't oceans away either.
Nothing is better than dating face to face, where you can go to the movies, fishing, shopping, dancing together.
I wish you all the best.
