I'm 16 and when I get depressed or angry or sad I grab a bottle of Vodka and some orange juice and make a screwdriver for myself, I dont like to but it always gets rid of my depression 'til the next day. So how do I keep myself from drinking?

Treat the depression. Or quit drinking, since alcohol causes depression.

first you have to find what is making you depressed and you need to fix that problem as soon as possible. if it seems to be something that cant be resolved you need to surround yourself with good friends and family that you can talk to and possibly get counseling. like you said the drinking is only temporary as far as masking your feelings but it is permanent physically definately when your drinking vodka at such a young age (mind you it is illegal) look at your future if you keep drinking you WILL be an addict of this drug and you WONT be a good mother, a good wife, or a friend. my suggestion to you would to do something productive if you get depressed, go for a walk.....maybe even take up sparring to get rid of your fustration, or just simply cry good luck to you and i hope you make the right descision :)

You just need to be more disapline with yourself and not drink. You should really wait till your 21 to try drinking because you will be more of an adult with better judgement. You are using this depression just to drink and that isnt the way to go about your problems go seek help from a doctor or your parents or friends.

that is not a good way to deal with your problems. you are setting yourself for a lifetime of heartache and serious health problems. I'd suggest therapy at this point...

or a journal...

go for a jog everytime you want a drink. exercize releases endorphines that make you feel good, and the time helps you put your life in perspective.

get involved with a social group that does healthy things...
get involved with a local theatre, dance, music or arts organization. The arts are a great way to express pain and sorrow. The advantage of theatre, dance or music is a lot of times there are others who understand you.

seek help from a pastor, rabbi, counselor...etc.

if you are really having trouble, and drink a lot...AA has groups for teens. good luck.

I used to have the same problem. It sounds like you know what your warning signs are, however, you have no solutions except drinking to make yourself feel better. You need to see a professional to give you a anti-depressent and anti-axiety drug like lexapro. Vesteral helps also with anxiety...If you do not you will continue to go through this catch 22 which can result in health problems.

Stop. At your age you are not only developing an alcohol dependency, but damaging your internal organs like your liver and spleen.

Binge drinking can KILL you, quickly or slowly- it can.

Call the county health department and ask for a referral for a confidential evaluation and therapy.

The best way to stop drinking is to first admit to yourself you have a drinking problem, find other people with your problem, use them to support you and then let them help you with your problem. All during my childhood my mom was an alcoholic and drunk heavily. By getting involved in AA (alcoholics anonymous) she was able to stop. AA groups are a great way to stop and they are found almost everywhere.

You should talk to someone. If you don't know an adult you can talk to, call a hotline. The best thing you can do is learn to deal with the stuff that leads you to drink. Not only will it help with the drinking itself, but it will help in general.

There are a variety of solutions:

1) Tell your dumbass parents to keep the alcohol locked up

2) Tape your mouth shut
