I want them to be semi outdoor cats because we live on a farm. I put them outside in the morning and afternoon until I get them fixed. They love it out there, but the female keeps climbing this tree and getting stuck. I have had to rescue her with a 25 foot ladder twice this week. Is there a way to stop it besides keeping them inside?

Cats are animals. Imagine what she would do if she were in a natural habitat and you weren't around to save her.

If you leave her in the tree and quit rescuing her, she will draw on her natural animal instincts and either figure out how to climb down herself or think about it before she does it again.

My daughter's kitten jumped off a twenty foot balcony to the carpeted floor below, later that same year, she climbed the Christmas tree and knocked it over. That was about fourteen years ago, and she was so scared, she never did either one of those things again.

Not all cats and kittens have the ability to climb down from a high tree. I had a cat once that did that a lot. He would climb high trees but was too scared to get back down. I personally don't know of anyway you can prevent this from happening other than keeping her in the house.

You can always call the vet and see what he or she has to suggest. Perhaps the vet can give you some solutions that will work.

Good luck to you and your cats! Cats can provide many entertaining moments for us who love them.

Stop rescuing her. She's doing it now because you are rescuing her. I had a kitten who did the same thing, and just so I would rescue her. When I stopped she came down on her own and never whined again when she climbed trees. She just wants the attention it gives her by climbing and whining. When she sees it doesn't work anymore, she'll work her way down. You can't stop cats from climbing, it's how they sharpen their nails, and their defense against bigger animals.

Try spraying some pepperspray on the tree. The cat will smell it and if it licks it's paws after climbing the tree, it will not like the taste. All you have to do is mix pepper with water. Hope this helps.

To tell you the truth, your cat is NOT stuck. If it can get UP there, it can get DOWN. The cat just chooses to stay in the tree. But if you continue to get the cat down, eventually she will learn that getting in the tree does NOT mean she's gettin away from you or waht ever else she's trying to get away from. In time, she will find a different place to chill or hide. But remember, if the cat can GET in the tree, the cat can get DOWN. That's why they have claws.

Answer this question.. Have you EVER seen a cat skeleton in a tree?? No.. thats because if the cat gets up the tree.. it WILL get down. Kittens tend to panic, unless she is out in the pouring rain, or in danger, "help" her to get down, but DON'T take her down. Soon enought she will figure out she can do it on her own

Let her figure it out for herself - it's kind of like letting a baby cry itself to sleep the first time - if you go up and rescue her every time, she won't need to use her native skills in cunning, climbing and claw-work. If she has to figure out a way down to get food, eventually she will, and if it's a little rougher and more tumbly than she'd like, it'll teach her the price of climbing the tree.

Sounds harsh, I know, but if you want semi-outdoor cats, they have to develop the instinct to get out of problems they get into.

This may seem unreasonable but you could build a fence around the tree one that doesn't have holes in to so your cat can't climb up the tree.
