I'm a teenager that's afraid of almost everything. Lately, I've been afraid of things that used to not scare me. For instance, I used to love horror movies. Nowadays, I don't watch them because they haunt me. I'm afraid of the dark and even my own family for Pete's sake! Also, a few years ago I was a great swimmer and loved animals. A week ago, on a vacation to the Phillipines, I just couldn't take off my life jacket when snorkeling, hated touching starfish, and freaked out when I saw a harmless water snake. Can anyone help me?

it may be simply stress thats causing you to be easilly startled, and more unstable than normal, therefore you are more insicure. Relaxe, find out whats causing the stress, and maybe see a phciciatrist, they can help a lot better than someone over the internet can.

Did someone commit a crime against you when you were a small child?
You could have Functional Amnesia.
when very young children are the victims of crime, they will almost always suppress the memory.
by the time you get to be a teen ager, the memories are trying to come out.
Can you remember anything from when you were 4 or 5 years old?
The other answer is that when government starts suspecting everybody of everything, it is normal to be paranoid, - it's a survival instinct

How much Weed are you smoking each day ? Weed is the biggest cause of Paranoia. If you are not smoking Weed then it is true, your parents are trying to kill you ! Do not sleep or they will have someone put a deadly snake in your bed. Leave the lights on ! Strange and weird things happen in the darkness.

I have the same problem as you and still I have no idea what to do. Just take it slow. Think of hilarious things when you get scared during horror movies or when it's just harmless and you know it just keep telling yourself that. You'll get better soon :)

You need to see a psychiatrist. What you are experiencing is not uncommon among teenagers, but you need to see a psychiatrist right away. Do not be afraid to tell your parents or a school counselor and explain that you need help. Do not delay.

Perhaps you are not paranoid, just anxious. I reccomend that you try and seek professional help, a psychiatrist who can help you overcome your fears and anxiety rationally. A professional can be of more help by far than anyone could here online.
Best wishes to you and may you feel better soon.
