I have heard this countless times, that the bible was sent down by god and is his divine word. im just wondering if people think this is so, and if so, what does it mean when all the inaccuracies are pointed out, like bats being called birds?????

There are many inaccuracies. But the one i stated is a good one, it says that bats are just another kind of bird. However it is clear they are mammals

I don't know if I would call them inaccuracies. The Bible was written a long time ago and things were not always worded the way they are now. Also, some things can read a little different when translated to another language. I believe that the Bible was written by men who were inspired by God. I don't question it, that is called faith. You either have it or you don't.

I have never heard an 'inaccuracy' that did not have a reaosnable explaination of a writing style or other.
I would be happy to dissus a so called 'inaccurasy ' with you if you like.

Several short summaries will differ because they leave out information which may be in eachother, and yet all be true and this is the sourse of most New Testament apparent contradictions.

Sometimes we think the Bible is written in the form of photographic 21st century journalism, it is not. As an example, one gospel writer may bring up 1 woman, one may bring up 3 one may bring up a group. They do not mean to paint a phtographic exact picture but bring up points to emphasise the issue they are making.

Jesus back from the dead in Luke endorsed the entire Old Testament, the Tenahk... so yes... The Bible is God breathed and the work of God

There are definitely inconsistencies in language, and lots of bits and pieces that don't seem to add up correctly. If you study anthropological translation theory the reasons for this will become pretty clear - your example of bats being called birds is an obvious one.

I for one thought the Bible was a load of horse **** until I got round to using my linguistics training on the old manuscripts that were used as the sources for the Bible. It becomes fascinating when you really get into the context and meaning of lots of phrases that are misinterpreted, especially in the Old Testament.

The Jewish study of the Torah (which we Xtians incorporated into our Bible) gives a much richer understanding of the text.

I certainly think that the Bible is divinely inspired. But bear in mind that it is an oral history too - it was transmitted without being written down for many many centuries. Hence, people's immediate understanding of what they were hearing at the time of transmission would have affected the oral reflection of the text.

You have not studied the Bible. No document ever written has even come close to withstanding the textual criticism that the Bible has. Textual, historical, and religious scholars have scoured oven every passage countless times over the last nearly 500 years. Every supposed inaccuracies falls away upon scholarly examination. The Bible is the inerrant Word of the Living God-no doubt in my mind.

the Bible was written by men. there's a variety of ways that Christians believe in the inspiration of the Bible. some believe that God spoke directly to the writters and thus every word is as it's supposed to be. however, on the other side, some believe that the Bible was written by men and that the ideas and concepts were preserved by God. there are also various beliefs within those two spectrums. many of those who believe that every word was inspired by God also lean on the fact that the current Bible we have is not exactly the same as the originals and is a product of years of copying and translating, and that only the originals have exactly what God wants to say.

The bible is the word of God given to the prophets translated into modern language by ordinary men. Men are fallible God is not. For all I know bats could have been called birds back then as mankind was not as scientific then as we are now.

What inaccuracies?
The Bible was written by those chosen by god. He gave them knowledge and inspiration for His Word to be passed down to the people.

the bible was written by man. there is no prove that God came down and gave men his words. the bible was rewritten some time in the early 1900's. the bible was written the same way any man writes a story, essay, or a poem. there is no one on earth that can say that it was from God. i can write about heaven, and say that God came and told me what it is like.

If you are not willing to detail these inaccuracies, then do not post the question. If you are not a Bible scholar, then do not suppose that the Bible is inaccurate. Jesus loves you.
